APPLICATION OF JIGSAW COOPERATIVE LEARNING TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ LEARNING MOTIVATION IN BIOLOGY TEACHING IN CLASS XI IPA 2 SMA BATIK 2 SURAKARTA ACADEMIC YEAR 2009/2010. THESIS. 2010. The objective of research is to improve students’ learning motivation in biology teaching in class XI IPA 2 SMA Batik 2 Surakarta academic year 2009/2010 using Jigsaw cooperative learning. This research is an action research that conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages, they are planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data are collected through questionnaire, observation, interview, and document analysis. The technique of analyzing data used in this research is qualitative descriptive analysis. Validity of the data is gained through data source triangulation. Conclusion of this research that the application of Jigsaw cooperative learning can improve the students’ learning motivation in biology teaching in class XI IPA 2 SMA Batik 2 Surakarta academic year 2009/2010. The result of the observation on students’ learning motivation in biology teaching shown the average indicator of students’ learning motivation in biology teaching in cycle I is 70,42% and in cycle II is 82,92%. There is 12,5% improvement from cycle I to cycle II. The result of questionnaire on students’ learning motivation in biology teaching shown the average indicator from the first aspect, internal motivation in cycle I is 73,49% and in cycle II is 76,51% while the average indicator from second aspect, external motivation, in cycle I is 73,81% and cycle II is 76,13%. There is 3,02% improvement of first aspect from cycle I to cycle II and 2,32 % improvement of second aspect from cycle I to cycle II.
