× Tujuan penelitian meliputi tiga hal: (1) mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan tindak tutur yang muncul dalam novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari; (2) mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan tuturan dalam Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari guna merealisasikan kesantunan berbahasa; (3) mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan strategi penutur untuk merealisasikan kesantunan berbahasa yang terdapat dalam Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari. Jenis penelitian adalah kualitatif. Bentuk penelitian adalah deskriptif. Pendekatan penelitian yang dipakai adalah pendekatan pragmatik, yakni mempelajari strategi-strategi yang ditempuh penutur dalam mengomunikasikan maksud pertuturannya. Sumber data berupa data tertulis, yakni novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari. Populasi penelitian mencakup seluruh tuturan, baik monolog maupun dialog, dalam novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari. Teknik pengambilan sampel memakai purposive sampling. Metode pengumpulan data memakai metode simak yang diikuti secara berurutan teknik-teknik dasar berupa teknik sadap, teknik simak bebas libat cakap, dan teknik catat. Metode analisis yang dipakai adalah metode kontekstual, yakni analisis yang mendasarkan, memperhitungkan, dan mengaitkan bahasa dengan identitas-identitas konteks penggunaannya. Validitas data memakai trianggulasi teori. Simpulan penelitian ini mencakup tiga hal. Pertama, tindak tutur dalam novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari terdiri atas 39 tindak tutur yang terbagi dalam empat kelompok tindak ilokusi, yakni asertif, direktif, komisif, dan ekspresif. Asertif meliputi tindak (a) menegaskan, (b) memberi tahu, (c) menuduh, (d) menyangkal, (e) menolak, (f) meyakini, (g) menggunjing, dan (h) melaporkan. Direktif mencakup tindak (a) memerintah, (b) menawarkan, (c) menantang, (d) meminta, (e) mendesak, (f) .melarang, (g) mengingatkan, (h) meyakinkan, (i) membujuk, (j) mengajak, (k) menyarankan, (l) menghibur, dan (m) mempersilakan. Komisif meliputi tindak (a) berharap, (b) mengancam, dan (c) menawar. Ekspresif meliputi tindak (a) memuji, (b) bersyukur, (c) khawatir, (d) menyombongkan diri, (e) marah, (f) heran, (g) meminta maaf, (h) takut, (i) kecewa, (j) mengeluh, (k) tidak percaya, (l) ragu-ragu, (m) basa-basi, (n) mengejek, dan (o) membanggakan. Kedua, realisasi kesantunan berbahasa dalam novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari terdapat dalam tujuh macam tindak tutur: (1) realisasi kesantunan berbahasa dalam menolak, (2) realisasi kesantunan berbahasa dalam memerintah, (3) realisasi kesantunan berbahasa dalam menawarkan, (4) realisasi kesantunan berbahasa dalam meminta, (5) realisasi kesantunan berbahasa dalam melarang, (6) realisasi kesantunan berbahasa dalam memuji, dan (7) realisasi kesantunan berbahasa dalam meminta maaf. Ketiga, strategi merealisasikan kesantunan berbahasa dalam novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari dilakukan dengan (1) menggunakan tawaran, (2) memberi pujian, (3) menggunakan tuturan tidak langsung, dan (4) meminta maaf. The research aims are: (1) to description and to explain the speech act in novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari; (2) to description and to explain the utterance in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari realize the language modesty; and (3) to description and to explain the speaker’s strategy in realizing the language modesty in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari. The study belonged to a qualitative research. The form of research was descriptive. The research approach used was pragmatic approach, that is, to study the strategies the speaker took in communicating the meaning of his utterance. The data source constituted the written data, novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari. The population of research included all utterances, both monolog and dialog, in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari. The sample of the research was determined by the purposive sample. Method of collecting data used was reading comprehension followed by the basic techniques successively including tapping, competently involvement free reading, and recording techniques. Method of analyzing data used was contextual method, the one basing, taking in to account and relating language to the usage context. Data validity used was theoritical triangulation. The conclusions of research include three following things. Firstly, the speech act in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari consists of 39 speech acts divided into four illocutionary act: assertive, directive, commissive, and expressive. The assertive one involves (a) confirmative, (b) informative, (c) accusative, (d) rejective, (f) beliving, (b) gossiping, and (h) reporting acts. Dirrective involves (a) commanding, (b) offering, (c) challengeing, (d) requesting, (e) compelling, (f) prohibiting, (g) reminding, (h) convincing, (i) persuading, (j) inviting, (k) suggesting, (l) entertaining, and (m) pleasing acts. Commisive involves (a) expecting, (b) threatening, and (c) bargaining acts. Expressive involves (a) praising, (b) gratifying, (c) worrying, (d) boasting, (d) angrying, (f) wandering, (g) apologizing, (h) fearing, (i) dissapointed, (j) complaining, (k) unbelieving, (l) doubting, (m) good manners, (n) mocking, and (o) prouding of acts. Secondly, the realization of language modesty in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh paruk by Ahmad Tohari lies in seven kinds of speech acts: (1) the realization of language modesty in refusing, (2) the realization of language modesty in commanding, (3) the realization of language modesty in offering, (4) requesting, (5) the realization of language modesty in prohibiting, (6) the realization of language modesty in praising and (7) the realization of language modesty in apologizing. Thirdly, the strategy of realizing the language modesty in novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari is done by (1) using offering, (2) giving praise, (3) using dirrect utterance, and (4) apolizing
