×2011. This research is a qualitative research employing descriptive
method. The data of the research are linguistic aspects of CR use in
the selected articles such as CR forms, meanings, roles, and
clauses. Meanwhile, the sources of data are selected articles of the
three online newspapers – http://thejakartapost.com,
http://thejakartaglobe.com, and http://tempointeractive.com – i. e.
in news, feature, and editorial columns and disaster-themed.
This research was conducted through Systemic Functional
Linguistics (SFL) approach by analyzing the sources of data. The
data were taken using total sampling technique then the data
descriptions were interpreted. The interpretation of the data was
employed to determine the CR forms, meanings, and roles;
investigate the influences of CR use on language style and text
structure; and find out the reasons of using those CRs in the articles. The finding of this research reveals that the results complete the variants of CR forms and meanings in news, feature, and editorial of online newspapers; all types of CR: conjunction, continuative, and logical metaphor could function both externally and internally; the roles of employed CR determine the text structure and micro genres of news, feature, and editorial that are simultaneously united and build up the macro genres of the texts; and the employed CR also determines the language style of news, feature,
and editorial, such as external conjunction and logical metaphor.
