× This final project was written based on the job training which was done by the writer from February 1st to March 8th, 2011 at Tourist Information Center of Surakarta. The objective of this final project is to describe the activities and service improvement of Tourist Information Center at Culture and Tourism Department of Surakarta. In the process of collecting data, the writer used observation method and library research. Since tourism activity makes job opportunities and increases national income, it became the main priority in the government policies for some developing countries just like Indonesia. Indonesia built Culture and Tourism Department (DISBUDPAR) which is spread in several provinces and regencies, to handle all of the activities and efforts related to tourism and to support the local tourism development. Culture and Tourism Department of Surakarta built TIC to serve tourists with information about tourism in Surakarta. Service is one of the several important things that should be done well by company or institution just like TIC to make people or tourists satisfied. The result of this final report shows that TIC had done several activities in improving its services based on five most important things that customers expect from quality service. The activities and improvements of services which were done by TIC of Surakarta are providing good accommodations and facilities such as a comfortable front office desk, guide map of Surakarta, tourist destination catalogue, calendar events of Surakarta, serving the tourists well, touch screen computers and etc. This final report also shows that TIC also has role to introduce and promote tourism in Surakarta. Several media such as outdoor advertising, publicity activities, and events are used by TIC in introducing and promoting tourism in Surakarta.
