Abstrak : This thesis is intended to test the financial ratios in order to see the relationship between profitability ratio and market value ratio. The test itself was done using samples in the amount of 66 manufacture industries which are listed in Jakarta Stock Exchange (Bursa Efek Jakarta). In analyzing the samples in order to find out whether or not there is a relationship between profitability ratio and market value ratio, the writer used Pearson’s Product Moment formula. The research result shows that there is a relationship between profitability ratio and market value ratio for all samples ranging from 2001 up to 2003, especially the relationship between profit margin ratio and PER as well as the relationship between ROA and ROE and PBV. It supports the hypothesis proposed in this thesis stating that there is a relationship between profitability ratio and market value ratio. Meanwhile, the analysis per year to all samples shows that there is no consistent relationship between profitability ratio and market value ratio, especially in 2003. In 2001 and 2002, there are relationships between profitability ratio and market value ratio, particularly between the relationship between ROA and PBV in 2001. In the contrary, in 2002, the relationship between profit margin and PER as well as the relationship between ROE and PBV were found. The similar thing happens to the analysis to sub-industries from 2001 to 2003; the result shows that there is no consistent relationship between profitability ratio and market value ratio, particularly in metal and allied products as well as in automotive and allied products sub-industries. In other sub-industries, however, the result shows a relationship between profitability ratio and market value ratio, especially the relationship between profit margin ratio and PER as well as the relationship between ROA and ROE and PBV for food and beverages sub-industry. The relationships between ROA and PBV as well as the relationship between profit margin and PER, which imply the relationship between profitability ratio and market value ratio, were found in apparel and other textile products sub industry and plastic and glass products sub industry.
