× The research is mainly aimed to discuss the plot of detective genre in Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. As the source of data is Holmes stories books entitled ‘A Study in Scarlet’, ‘The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes’, and ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’, the main data is the words, phrases, and sentences and narration of the story related to the plot development of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories mentioned above. The supporting data are collected from other written material, such as books, journal and internet resources. In order to achieve best result, the research uses structuralism approach in analyzing the plot of the detective stories. Plot is one intrinsic aspect that built a story. To support the analysis, there is an explanation of the relation between plot and other intrinsic aspects as well. From the analysis, it is discovered that the plot of detective stories by Doyle can be applied in five basic stages division of plot. There are some twisting events to make surprise and suspense feeling appear, yet it is still plausible and needed to build the story. The plot cannot work alone in building the whole story. Doyle managed to maximize those aspects together. Holmes stories follow the detective genre’s pattern in arranging plot, while in the same time; it can maximize other aspects in building the story.
