×Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk : ( 1 ) mengetahui proses berpikir siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita pada pokok bahasan Bangun datar segi-empat berdasarkan tahapan pemecahan masalah Polya, ( 2 ) mengetahui faktor-faktor apa saja yang mempengaruhi proses berpikir siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita.
Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Dalam penelitian ini untuk menentukan subyek penelitian menggunakan pemilihan sampel bertujuan ( purposive sample ), dipilih 8 subyek penelitian dan pada setiap level dipilih 2 subyek dengan pertimbangan bahwa 2 subyek tersebut dirasa telah cukup memberikan informasi. Metode-metode yang telah digunakan dalam pengambilan data adalah metode observasi, metode tes, dan metode wawancara. Langkah-langkah dalam analisis data adalah reduksi data, penyajian data, dan menarik kesimpulan.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa proses berpikir siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita yang berkaitan dengan bangun datar segi-empat berdasarkan langkah Polya bersifat hierarkis, yaitu untuk melakukan tahapan berpikir tertentu siswa harus dapat melakukan tahapan berpikir yang lebih rendah terlebih dahulu. Apabila siswa sudah dapat melakukan tahapan berpikir tertentu maka sudah dapat dipastikan siswa tersebut sudah dapat melakukan tahapan berpikir yang lebih rendah, sebaliknya apabila siswa belum dapat melakukan tahapan berpikir tertentu maka siswa tersebut belum dapat melakukan tahapan berpikir yang lebih tinggi. Dan dari penelitian ini dapat diketahui pula faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi proses berpikir siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita pada pokok bahasan Bangun datar segi-empat berdasarkan empat tahapan pemecahan masalah Polya antara lain : pemahaman kalimat soal, penguasaan siswa terhadap konsep tentang teori pendukung mengenai rumus luas dan keliling bangun datar segiempat.
The aims of this research are to : ( 1 ) find out the student’s thinking process in solving word problem solving, ( 2 ) find out what factors which affect the student’s thinking process in solving word problems.
The research uses qualitative method.In this research to determine research subjects using a purposive sample technique selection, eight research subjects selected and every level of the selected two subjects was considered adequate to provide information. The methods used in collecting data are observation, test, and interview methods.Steps in analyzing the data are data reduction, data presentation, and deduction.
Based on result of the research, it can be concluded that the student’s thinking process in solving word problems in the topic of the rectangular based on Polya’s four stages of problem solving that the student’s thinking process in solving word problems related to hierarchical rectangle, that is to apply certain thinking stage, the student’s must be able to apply lower thinking stage first. If they have been able to apply certain thinking stage, it can be assured that the student’s have been able to apply lower thinking stage. Otherwise, if the student’s have not been able to apply certain thinking stage, they have not been able to apply higher thinking stage. From the research, it can also be found out the factors affecting the student’s thinking process in solving word problems in the topic of the rectangular based on Polya’s four stages of problem solving, that are : understanding of the stems, lack of student’s mastery towards the concept of supporting theory on the formula of rectangular’s area and perimeter.
