× This research aims at finding out: (1) whether there is a different in writing competence between students taught using Scaffolded writing and Direct Instruction and to identify which group of students has better writing competence. (2) which one has better writing competence, the students having high creativity or those having low creativity. (3) whether there is interaction between teaching methods and students’ creativity in term of writing competence. This research was carried out at SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta from May to June 2012. The subject of the research is the tenth year students. The samples are XMM1 students for an experimental group and XMM2 for a control group. Cluster random sampling is used to get the sample. In collecting the data, the researcher used test to know the students’ creativity and writing test to know their competence in writing. Descriptive and inferential analyses are used to analyze the data. Descriptive analysis is used to describe the mean, median, mode, and standard deviation. The normality and homogeneity tests are conducted before inferential analysis is used. To test the hypothesis, ANOVA 2 x 2 is used. H0 is rejected, if Fo is higher than Ft. The research findings are: (1) Scaffolded Writing method is more effective than Direct instruction method for teaching writing; The result of the F0(between columns) is 5,63 and Ft at the level of significance α = 0.05 is 3.99 in which F0(between columns) is higher than Ft. So, the methods of teaching writing is different. It caused by the mean of Scaffolded Writing (A1) is higher than DIM (A2) (72.50>66.18). (2) The students having higher creaativity have better writing competence than students having lower cretivity. The result of the F0 (between rows) is 6.48 and Ft at the level of significance α = 0.05 is 3.99 in which F0(between rows) is higher than Ft. So, the students having high creativity are different with those having low creativity. It caused by the mean of students having high creativity (B1) is higher than those having low creativity (B2) (72.71>65.96). and (3) There is an interaction between methods and students’ creativity for teaching writing. The result F0 between group (Finteraction) (16,83) is higher than Ft at the level of significance α = 0.05 (3.99). It means that the null hypothesis (H0AB : µA x µB ¬= 0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1AB : µA x µB ≠ 0) is accepted. Scaffolded Writing method is suitable for students having higher creativity and Direct Instruction Method is suitable for students having lower creativity. It is important for English teacher to select the method which is suitable for higher and lower creativity students. Key words : SCAFFOLDED WRITING, Dirext Instruction, Creativity,Writing Competence
