×The objectives of this research are: (1) to identify whether and to what
extent the use of internet-based song as teaching media improve students’
vocabulary mastery; (2) to identify how the situation is when internet-based song
is applied in the English class to improve students’ vocabulary mastery.
The study is an action research which was conducted in two cycles at the
sixth grade of SD Negeri Krandegan Bayan Purworejo from July 11th to Augustus
3rd 2011. The research data are collected by using techniques of observation,
interview, diary, document, and test (pre-test and post-test). The data were
analyzed through the method of Burns and descriptive statistic.
The research findings show that the use of Internet-Based Song is able to
improve students’ vocabulary mastery and classroom situation of English class.
The improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery includes: (1) students have
fewer difficulties in pronouncing some vocabularies compared with the
difficulties faced before the research; (2) students also make fewer mistakes in
spelling some vocabularies compared with the difficulties faced before the
research; (3) students have fewer difficulties in finding the meaning (4) students
have fever mistakes in using the words based on the context compared with the
difficulties faced before the research. The passing grade of vocabulary mastery in
SD N Krandegan Bayan Purworejo is 6.50. The students mean score must be
higher than the minimum standard. Besides the improvement of students
vocabulary mastery can be seen from the improvement of the mean score of pretest,
test in cycle 1, and post test, that is 5.50, 6.95, 7.76. The improvement of
classroom situation includes: (1) there are hardly any students who makes
harming sound; (2) there is nobody ask for permission to the teacher to go to the
bathroom at the same time; (3) most of the students are more enthusiastic, and
interested in teaching learning process. They enjoyed learning very much; (4)
Students rarely move from their seats. There are only one to three students who
walk and run in the classroom.
By implementing the use of Internet – Based Song, the students can
improve their vocabulary mastery. The researcher suggests that other English
teachers use Internet – Based Song in their classroom teaching learning activities
to help improve their students’ vocabulary.
