× The purpose of this research are (1) to find out the types of cultural terms in the bilingual calendar event book, (2) to find out the techniques applied by the translator to translate cultural terms found in the bilingual calendar event book, (3) to describe how the techniques influence the translation quality in terms of accuracy and readability in the bilingual calendar event book. This research is a descriptive qualitative. A purposive sampling technique was employed in this research. The data are all words and phrases containing cultural terms in the bilingual calendar event book entitled Central Java, Calendar of Events 2011. The other data are taken from the questionnaires assessed by three raters, and five respondents. The total data of cultural terms in the calendar event are 129 numbers. The analysis on types of cultural terms shows that there are three types of cultural terms found in the data, they are organizations, customs, activities, procedures, and concepts (83 data or 64,34%), material culture (artifacts) (45 data or 34, 88%), and gestures and habits (a datum or 0,78%). The analysis of translation technique shows that there are seven translation techniques applied by the translator in translating cultural terms, they are cultural equivalence technique (43 data or 33,33%), transference technique (27 data or 20,93%), descriptive equivalence technique (24 data or 18,60%), reduction technique (16 data or 12,40%), shift/transposition technique (14 data or 10,85%), couplets technique (3 data or 2,33%) and the last technique is addition (2 data or 1,55%). The analysis of the accuracy of the translation shows that 71 data (55,04%) are considered as accurate translations, 44 data (34,11%) are less accurate, and 14 data (10,85%) are inaccurate translations. The analysis on the readability of the translation shows that 52 data (40,31%) are readable, 51 data (39,53%) are considered less readable, and 26 data (20,15%) are unreadable. The technique resulting translations with high level of accuracy is cultural equivalent. Meanwhile, the technique which results in translations with low level of accuracy is reduction. The technique which results in translations with high level of readability is cultural equivalent. However, there are two techniques which result in translations with low level of readability, i.e. transference and reduction.
