×The main objectives of the research are to identify whether: (1) Matching Games are more effective than Traditional Technique for teaching speaking; (2) Students having high creativity have better speaking skill than the students having low creativity; and (3) There is interaction effect between teaching techniques and students’ creativity on the students’ speaking ability.
The experimental method was employed in this research. The population of the research was the first grade students of SMA N 1 Kutasari in the Academic Year of 2010/2011. The sampling used was Cluster Random Sampling. The sample in the research was two classes covering 36 students of XC as the experimental class and 36 students of XE as the control class. The research instruments consist of creativity test and oral production test. Before the instruments were used, a try-out was done to know the validity, reliability, and readability of the instrument. After treatment was given in nine meetings, the researcher conducted a post-test to get the research data. Having got research data, the researcher analyzed the data in terms of their frequency distribution, normality of the sample distribution, and data homogeneity. Then, the researcher used ANOVA test (multifactor analysis of variance) and TUKEY test to test the research hypotheses.
Referring to the summary of multifactor analysis of variance, it can be concluded that: (1) Matching Game as a teaching technique is not more effective than Traditional Technique to to teach speaking skill for the first grade students of SMA N 1 Kutasari in the Academic Year of 2010/2011; (2) The students with high creativity have better speaking skill than students who have low creativity; and (3) There is no interaction between the teaching techniques and the students’ creativity to teach speaking.
Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the use of Matching Game is not more effective than Traditional Technique for teaching speaking for the first grade students of SMA N 1 Kutasari in the Academic Year of 2010/2011. It is better for teachers to use good teaching technique to improve the students’ speaking skill, not only Matching Game that is needed to be used in the classroom activities but also can use the other games to teach speaking skill.
