× This research aims at finding out whether: (1) Analytic Teams is more effective than Grammar Translation to teach reading; (2) students who have high intelligence have better reading comprehension than those who have low intelligence; (3) there is an interaction effect between teaching techniques and students’ intelligence on the students’ reading comprehension. This research is an experimental research. The population is the eighth grade students of MTsN Ponorogo in the academic year of 2011/2012. It consists of 248students. Cluster random sampling is used to get two classes as the sample. Each class was divided into two groups (the students who have high and low intelligence) and the class VIIIA was used as the experimental class and class VIIIB as the control class. Each of the classes consists of 22 students. The experiment group was treated by using Analytic Teams, while the control group was treated by using Grammar Translation. Then, the instruments which were used to collect the data were documentation for getting the data of the students’ intelligence and multiple choice test for getting the students’ reading skill. The test was tried out to get valid and reliable items. The data were analyzed by using multifactor analysis of variance 2x2 and Tukey test. Based on the result of this research, the findings are (1) Analytic Teams is more effective than Grammar Translation to teach reading; (2) the students who have high intelligence have better reading comprehension than those who have low intelligence; (3) there is an interaction effect between teaching techniques and students’ intelligence in terms of the students’ reading comprehension. Referring to the findings above, it can be concluded that Analytic Teams is effective technique for teaching reading to the eighth grade students of MTsN Ponorogo. Therefore, it is suggested that: (1) Analytic Teams technique can be used as one alternative technique to teach reading; (2) the students must be aware of the importance of active involvement in teaching learning process; (3) the other researchers who would like to conduct future research of the same kind with different sample and different students’ condition, this result of study can become reference.
