× ABSTRAK This job training activity was done from February to the middle of March, 2007 at SLTP N 2 Bandongan, Magelang.This final project is intended to know what the teaching methods used in teaching English in the first grade and the second grade students of SLTP N 2 Bandongan, Magelang are. This report employs a descriptive method. It is a research method that includes arranging, explaining, analyzing, and concluding research data. Teaching learning method is crucial thing to construct a better improvement of an English class.Teacher’s selection of a proper teaching method will make English class more effective. SLTP N 2 Bandongan, Magelang uses Direct Method and Grammar Translation Method. The English teachers apply these methods, because they concerned with the student’s condition and also the curriculum.Those methods applied are effectuve enough in the English classroom because students can try to communicate in English language and the students also know the rules. The teachers teach their students chronologically. They give brainstorming, explanation, and then tasks. Some problems appear during the class activity, such as the lack of facilities, the limited vocabulary, and the low student’s interest in learning speaking English. The suggestion is dedicated to the English Diploma Program and also the principal of SLTP N 2 Bandongan. Efforts should be made to encourage students to become independent and adventurous in the learning of the language.
