Teaching reading to the 1 grade students of SMP N 2 Mojolaban

× ABSTRAK This final project was written based on the writer’s job training as an English teacher in SMPN 2 Mojolaban., which was done for a month. This final project reports the teaching learning process, especially English reading. It is aimed to know and understand the method used, the problems faced and the solutions for those problems in teaching reading to the 1st grade students of SMPN 2 Mojolaban. In teaching reading, the English teacher of SMPN 2 Mojolaban used Grammar Traditional Method and Direct Method as the methods of teaching. Reading the text, translating the text into and out of the target language and recognizing new words were the ways of the teacher taught English reading. The problems which arise in teaching reading to the 1st grade students of SMPN 2 Mojolaban were the student’s problems such as low motivation in learning English and less of vocabulary and pronunciation. The others problems were limited materials and facilities. In handling the student’s problems, the English teacher used some interesting ways in delivering the materials, i.e. playing a game, singing a song, etc. The teacher lent or asked the students to buy additional books was the solution for the material problem. To solve the facilities problem, the school should provide an English laboratory.
