× This research focuses on the analysis of translation strategies applied in translating simile in the classic novel entitled Wuthering Heights which is translated by two translators and the analysis of translation quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. The purposes of the research are (1) to find out the strategies used by both translators in translating the similes into Bahasa Indonesia (2) to find out the impact of the strategies on the level of accuracy, acceptability and readability of the translation of the similes. This research employes purposive sampling technique. The data are 137 similes in the classic novel Wuthering Heights and their translations in Bahasa Indonesia. The analysis on the translation strategies shows the first translator, Lulu Wijaya, applied six strategies in translating the similes. The strategies are literal translation (117 data), replacement of the vehicle with a different vehicle (6 data), reduction of the simile (7 data), omission of the simile (3 data), replacement of vehicle with a gloss (1datum) and change of similarity features (3 data). The second translator, A. Rahartati Bambang Haryo, applied seven strategies in translating similes. The strategies are literal translation (89 data), replacement of the vehicle with a different vehicle (18 data), reduction of the simile (16 data), retention of the same vehicle plus explicitness of the similar feature(s) (3 data), omission of the simile (6 data), replacement of vehicle with a gloss (1datum) and change of similarity features (4 data). The analysis on the translation accuracy of Lulu Wijaya’s translation shows that there are 94 data (68.6%) considered to be accurate, 38 data (27.7%) considered to be less accurate and 5 data (3.7%) considered to be inaccurate. The analysis on the translation acceptability shows that there are 95 data (69.3%) considered to be acceptable and 16 data (11.7%) considered to be less acceptable and 26 data (19%) considered to be unacceptable. And the analysis on the translation readability shows that there are 68 data (49.6%) considered to be readable, 58 data (42.3%)considered to be less readable and 11 data (8.1%) considered to be unreadable. The analysis on the translation accuracy of A. Rahartati Bambang Haryo’s translation shows that there are 85 data (62%) considered to be accurate, 41 data (29.9%) considered to be less accurate and 11 data (8.1%) considered to be inaccurate. The analysis on the translation acceptability shows that there are 105 data (76.6%)considered to be acceptable and 13 data (9.5%) considered to be less acceptable and data (13.9%) considered to be unacceptable. And the analysis on the translation readability shows that xiii there are 92 data (67.1%) considered to be readable, 30 data (21.9%) considered to be less readable and 15 data (11%) considered to be unreadable. (1) literal translation is the most dominant strategy applied by both translators, (2) the second translator uses more various translation strategies in translating simile than the first translator does, (3) the first translator produces higher level of accuracy than the second translator does, (4) in terms of acceptability and readability, the second translator produces higher level than the first translator does.
