The analysis of the translation of english idioms charlie and the chocolate factory movie

× This research is carried out to find out types of idiom used by the characters of Charlie and Chocolate Factory Movie, to know technique of analysis of translation that are used by the translator to translate idioms of source text into target text and to know the translations quality of Charlie and Chocolate Factory Movie . This research is a descriptive qualitative research which takes total sampling technique. The researcher uses two kinds source of data. First source of data is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory Movie. Second source of data is the informants. There are 79 idioms found in the movie. Based on the analysis of the data, it can be concluded that: 1. there are five types of idioms found in the Charlie and The Chocolate Factory Movie called as (a). phrasal verb which has 36 data (45,6 %), (b). phrase which has 24 data (30, 9 %), (c). compound which has 2 data (2, 5 %), (d). semi clause which has 9 data (11, 4 %) and (d). clause which has 8 sata (10, 1 %). 2. There are three techniques of translation used by translator to translate idioms of source text into target text, they are: (a). using similar meaning but dissimilar form which is used to translate 3 data (3. 8 %), translation by paraphrase which is used to translate 74 data (93, 7 %) and translation by omission which is used to translate 2 data (2, 5 %). 3. The translation quality of the movie in the term of: (a). the accuracy of the translation is considered as accurate translation since 76 data (96, 2 %) are included to this scale, (b). the acceptability of the translation is considered as acceptable translation since 77 data (97, 5 %) are included to this scale, (c). the readability of the translation is considered as readable translation since 71 data (89, 9 %) are included to this scale. This research has weakness. In the indicators descriptions scale of the accuracy, acceptability and readability of the translation, the researcher mixes these three indicators. It makes the scoring of the translation quality refracted. It is suggested to the other researcher to know well the meaning of accuracy, acceptability and readability and she/ he can also differ each of them well.
