Abstrak : Boric acid (H3BO3) have an important role in various industries, both as an adjuvant in the glass industry, ceramic coatings industry, condensing agent and bleach in the chemical industry, and materials in the manufacture of drugs in the pharmaceutical industry. Domestic demand remains to be imported from abroad and export opportunities are still open, the Boric Acid Plant designed capacity of 33,000 tons / year with raw materials Borax (Na2B4O7. 10H2O) as many as 56 535 tons / years and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) as many as 14 467 tons / year. The factory is planned to stand in the industrial area of Gresik, East Java in 2018. Boric acid is made by reacting borax and sulfuric acid at a temperature of 90 º C and pressure of 1 atm in a stirred tank reactor flow (RATB), isothermal conditions and equipped with cooling jackets. The reaction that occurs is exothermic. Conversion of boric acid for this reaction is 90%. Stage of the process includes the preparation of raw material borax and sulfuric acid, borax dissolves in water using a mixer, reaction formation of boric acid in RATB, in netraliser neutralization, crystallization of boric acid in the crystallizer, centrifuge separation products, and drying the product in the rotary dryer. Boric acid products packaged and put into storage. Process support unit includes a water supply unit (cooling water, boiler feed, public consumption and sanitation) were purchased from PT Petrokimia, Gresik to the needs of 234,050.23 kg / hr, units procurement steam with the needs of 22194.07 kg/hr, units procurement of compressed air at 51 m3/hr, units procurement of electricity from PLN 367.02 kW and 459 kW generator for, as well as fuel procurement unit of IDO at 10792.78 L/hr. The factory also supported laboratory quality control of raw materials and products, and factory waste is a liquid. Bersal effluent from the bottom of the distillation tower and sanitary waste water is treated in the UPL. Shape of the selected company is a Limited Liability Company (PT). The system is based on the division of employee working hours which consists of employees shift and non-shift. Total number of employees is 162 people, which amounts to 84 employees shift and non-shift employees 78 people. Meanwhile, according to employee status can be divided into full-time employees, employees daily, and employees bulk. The results of the economic analysis obtained Rate of Return (ROI) of 84.83% and 63.63% before tax after tax. Pay Out Time (POT) gained by 1.08 years and 1.4 years before tax after tax. Break Even Point (BEP) of 53.23%, Shut Down Point (SDP) of 47.50%, and Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) of 27.51%. The results of the economic analysis it can be concluded that the boric acid plant feasible to set up.
