Penelitian  tindakan  kelas  ini  bertujuan  untuk:  (1)  meningkatkan  kualitas  proses  pembelajaran  menulis  teks  berita  berwawasan  multikultural  dengan  penerapan  metode  pembelajaran  berbasis  masalah  dan  (2)  meningkatkan  kemampuan  menulis  teks  berita  berwawasan  multikultural  dengan  penerapan  metode  pembelajaran  berbasis  masalah  pada  siswa  kelas  VIII-G  SMP  Negeri  13 Surakarta. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada pertengahan Januari  2013 hingga pertengahan Mei.  Pendekatan penelitian adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek penelitian adalah  guru dan siswa kelas VIII-G  SMP Negeri 13  Surakarta. Data berupa RPP, foto,  hasil tes, catatan lapangan, daftar nilai, dan catatan hasil wawancara. Sumber data  meliputi:  informan,  tempat  dan  proses  pembelajaran,  dan  dokumen.  Teknik  pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, tes, dan dokumen. Uji validitas  data menggunakan triangulasi metode dan triangulasi sumber data. Teknik analisis  data  dengan  teknik  analisis  kritis  dan  teknik  deskriptif  komparatif.  Indikator  ketercapaian  sebesar  80%.  Prosedur  penelitian  meliputi  persiapan,  survei  awal,  pelaksanaan siklus, pengamatan, dan pelaporan. Hasil  penelitian  menunjukkan  bahwa  penerapan  metode  pembelajaran  berbasis  masalah  mampu  meningkatkan  kualitas  proses  pembelajaran  menulis  teks  berita  berwawasan  multikultural  ditandai  meningkatnya  perhatian,  keaktifan,  dan  keterlaksanaan pembelajaran  oleh  siswa.  Penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa  dengan menerapkan metode  pembelajaran berbasis masalah  dapat meningkatkan  kemampuan menulis  teks berita  berwawasan multikultural pada siswa kelas VIIIG  SMP  Negeri  13  Surakarta.  Hal  ini  dapat  dilihat  dari  hasil  tindakan  yang  dilakukan  selama  tiga  siklus.  Pada  pratindakan  jumlah  siswa  yang  memperoleh  nilai di atas  KKM (71)  7  siswa (32%) dengan nilai rata-rata 62,72. Pada siklus I  siswa  tuntas  meningkat  menjadi  10  siswa  (45%)  dengan  nilai  rata-rata  66,59.  Siklus II ada 13 siswa (59%) yang sudah tuntas, dengan nilai rata-rata 70,90. Pada  siklus III  siswa yang mencapai KKM sebanyak  18  siswa (82%) dengan nilai ratarata 77,95. Pada siklus III ini pencapaian nilai baik secara kualitas proses maupun  hasil  telah  mencapai  ketuntasan  yang  lebih  dari  80%.  Selanjutnya,  dapat  disimpulkan  bahwa  pembelajaran  menulis  teks  berita  berwawasan  multikultural  dapat  meningkatkan  kualitas  proses  maupun  kemampuan  menulis  puisi  berwawasan multikultural  The objectives of this  research are: (1) to increase the quality of the process of  writing  news  text  with  multicultural  conceptions  by  implementing  the  problembased learning method; and (2) to increase the ability of the 8th-grade students of  Class VIII-G of  SMP Negeri 13 Surakarta  to write news text with multicultural  anception by implementing the problem-based learning method. This  research  was  conducted  from  the  mid  January  up  to  the  mid  May  2013. This research used the class action research approach. The samples of this  research consisted of the teacher and the students of Class VIII-G of SMP Negeri  13  Surakarta.  The  data  of  this  research  consisted  of  the  lesson  plan,  the  photographs, the results of the test, the field note, the list of scores, and the record  of  the  interviews.  The  data  of  this  research  were  gathered  from  informant,  learning  place  and  process,  and  document  through  observation,  interview,  test,  and document. The validity of this research was tested by using the method and  data  source  triangulations.  The  data  were  then  analyzed  by  using  the  critical  analysis  technique  and  the  comparative  descriptive  technique.  The  indicator  of  achievement  reached  80%.  The  procedure  of  this  research  consisted  of  preparation, initial survey, implementation of cycle, and reporting. The results of this research are as follows: (1) the number of students who  achieve the score above the minimal completeness criterion score (71) in the precycle stage is 7 students (32%) with the average score as much as 62.72; (2) the  number of students who pass the minimal completeness criterion score in the first  cycle rises up to 10 students (45%) with the class average score of 66.59; (3) the  number  of  students  who  pass  the  minimal  completeness  criterion  score  in  the  second cycle rises up to 13 students (59%) with the class average score of 70.90;  and (4) the number of students who pass the minimal completeness criterion score  in the third cycle rises up to 18 students (82%) with the average score of 77.95.  The score achievement in this third cycle has achieved completeness of more than  80%. Based on the results of the research, a conclusion is drawn that the learning  process of writing news text with multicultural conceptions by implementing the  problem-based learning method learning method can increase both of the quality  of the process and the ability to write the news text.
