A Translation Analysis Of Proper Names In The Fantasy, Greek, And Roman Mythology Novel The Heroes Of Olympus: The Lost Hero

× The purposes of this research are (1) to find out the types of proper names found in the novel entitled The Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero, (2) to find out the translation techniques applied by the translator in translating proper names, (3) to describe how the translation techniques impact the translation quality in term of accuracy and acceptability. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The researcher uses purposive sampling technique in this research. The data of this research are all proper names in the novel The Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero and their Indonesian translation and information collected through questionnaires given to the three raters. The total data in the novel are 365 data. There are ten types of proper names found in the novel The Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero, they are personal names (185 data / 50, 68%); geographical names (87 data / 23, 83%); names of titles (18 data / 4, 93%); Brands names (18 data / 4, 93%); names of nationalities (11 data / 3, 01%); names of events (15 data / 4, 10%); names of temporal units (4 data / 1, 09%); names of abstract idea (2 data / 0, 54%); name of species (1 data / 0, 27%); other names (24 data / 6, 57%). The personal names can be divided into four subgroups, they are names of real persons (5 data / 1, 36%), names of fictitious persons (41 data / 11, 23%), names of gods, goddess, figures, and creatures in Greek and Roman Mythology (68 data / 18, 63%), and nicknames (71 data / 19, 45%). The geographical names also can divided into two subgroups, they are real geographical names (71 data / 19, 45%) and fictitious geographical names (16 data / 4, 38%). Names of titles can be divided into two groups, they are titles of person (5 data / 1, 36%) and titles of movies, books, albums and song (13 data / 3, 51%). Other names can be divided into seven subgroup, they are names of tribes (4 data / 1,09%), name of sport (1 data or 0,276%), name of quiz program (1 data /0, 27%), names of weapons and items (15 data / 4,10%), name of website (1 data xv / 0, 27%), name of council (1 data / 0, 27%), and name of kingdom (1 data / 0,27 % ). The analysis on the translation techniques shows that there are seventeen techniques in the novel The Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero applied by the translator in translating proper name in the novel entitled The Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero. They are rendition (59 data / 16, 16 %); copy (194 data / 53, 15 %); transcription (16 data / 4, 38%); substitution (12 data / 3, 28%); recreation (1 data / 0, 27%); transposition (5 data / 1, 36%); conventionality (6 data / 1, 64%). The combination techniques are rendition and copy (41 data / 11, 23%); rendition and transcription (6 data / 1, 64%); rendition and addition (4 data / 1, 09%); rendition, copy, and addition (2 data / 0, 54%); rendition and recreation (1 data / 0, 27%); rendition and deletion (1 data
