× This report was written based on the writer’s experience in job training activities as an English teacher at SDN Purwosuman 1 Sidoharjo, Sragen. The purpose of this report is to know the English teaching and learning process at SDN Purwosuman 1 Sidoharjo, and to know the advantages and disadvantages of teaching vocabulary by using pictures. At the time of job training, the writer did school observation. The writer observed the class condition, the facilities, and the teaching and learning activities. SD N Purwosuman 1 Sidoharjo has no special teacher for English lesson. Therefore, the writer has no additional material except the handbook. During conducting the job training, the writer divided some steps in delivering the material. The steps are covers greeting, warming up, explaining, practicing, marking or assessment, and ending the lesson. The result of the job training showed some advantages of teaching vocabulary by using pictures and there was also found some disadvantages. The advantages of teaching vocabulary by using pictures are easy to find, it makes the students attracted on the material, picture can explain the material clearly and also easy to remember. Meanwhile, that teaching vocabulary by using pictures also has several disadvantages. Those are students usually pay more attention to the pictures than to learn the material, it needs extra cost to provide attractive pictures, and sometimes small or unclear pictures make students misunderstand about the pictures. Finally, the writer concluded that teaching vocabulary by using pictures is useful. But the teacher has to be clever in order to decide which pictures will be used. It is because we don’t want our students to pay more attention on the pictures rather than the material, or they are not attracted on both, whether the pictures or the material given.
