Teaching English Simple Sentences To Grade 4th Students Of Sd N Karangasem Iii By Using Grammar Translation Method

× This final project report was written based on the job training done by the writer as an English teacher at SD N Karangasem III. The objectives were to describe the process of teaching English simple sentences to grade fourth students of SD N Karangasem III by using grammar translation method, and to find out the advantages and disadvantages of teaching by using grammar translation method. During the job training, the writer did the observations first. The writer observed about the English lesson in the school, the condition of the classroom, the students, and the way of the English teacher in delivering the material to students. The teaching process during the job training was divided in several steps, they are: greeting, warming up, explaining, practicing, and closing. There were some advantages and disadvantages of teaching English simple sentences by using grammar translation method. The advantages of teaching English simple sentences by using grammar translation method were that the method uses the mother tongue in explaining. Vocabularies were taught in a list. Those made students comprehend the material given easily. The exercises gave students some experiences in translating and making sentences. The disadvantages of teaching English simple sentences by using grammar translation method were that students were less accustomed to using the mother tongue, and the explanation was little elaborate. They couldn’t understand if they don’t pay attention.
