A Translation Analysis Of Wh-Question In The Movie “Young Victoria

× This research focuses on the variations of wh-question found in the movie entitled The Young Victoria. The research was conducted to analyze the variations of wh-question found in the movie and to know how the quality of the target text in terms of the accuracy, the acceptability and the readability. This research belongs to a qualitative research employing descriptive method. It applies purposive sampling technique to determine the source of data. The source of data is a movie entitled The Young Victoria. The total number of data is 58 along with its translation in Bahasa Indonesia including the score and assessment from raters. The result of this research shows that there are five types having variations in the translation of the question word; what, where, why, how and which. Moreover, the translation of wh-question in film The Young Victoria is very good. It is proved by the high percentage (more than 90%) of the accurate data, acceptable data, and readable data. In addition, the result also shows that the translator seems to have problems in translating long sentences as most of the inappropriate translations are in the form of long sentence. Finally, it is suggested that when facing the long sentences, a subtitler should put the accuracy of the message to be the first priority, while to make a readable translation, one can omit certain expressions that is insignificantly affected the message conveying
