× The objectives of this research are to ascertain whether: (1) Send-A-Problem is more effective than lecturing to teach speaking at the Eleventh grade students of MAN Tulungagung 1 in the academic year of 2012/1013; (2) the students who have high self-esteem have batter speaking skill than those who have low self-esteem at the Eleventh grade students of MAN Tulungagung 1 in the academic year of 2012/1013; and (3) there is interaction between teaching techniques and students’ self-esteem in teaching speaking at the Eleventh grade students of MAN Tulungagung 1 in the academic year of 2012/1013. The research was experimental study and the population of research was the Eleventh grade students of MAN Tulungagung 1 in the academic year of 2012/1013. The samples were: (1) 30 students from IPA 3; and (2) 30 students from IPS 1. In determining the sample, the researcher took the sample of this study by using cluster random sampling. Each class was divided into two groups (the students who have high and low self-esteem). The research instruments consist of the students’ self-esteem questionnaire and speaking test. The speaking test was tried out to get readability. Then, the data were analyzed by using multifactor analysis of variance 2X2 (ANNOVA) and Tukey test. From the research result, there are three findings as follows: (1) the students who are taught using Send-A-Problem technique have better speaking skill than those who are taught using Lecturing technique; (2) the students who have high self-esteem have batter speaking skill than those who have low self-esteem; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching techniques and students’ self-esteem. Finally, it can be concluded that: (1) Send-A-Problem is an effective technique to teach speaking at the Eleventh grade students of MAN Tulungagung 1 in the academic year of 2012/1013; (2) the effectiveness technique is affected by the level of students’ self-esteem. Hopefully, the research result of this research can be used by English teachers to determine an appropriate teaching technique to teach speaking for the students who have high and low self-esteem.
