Abstrak : This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research in which the researcher tries to find out how the direct-speech translations in “Absen Natal” are classified based on the strategies applied by the translator and to find out the accuracy of those direct-speech translations. The samples of this research are all the direct-speech in the form of declarative sentences consisting of one sentence, taken from the novel “Skipping Christmas” by John Grisham and its Indonesian translation. The primary data are the direct-speech sentences in the source text (ST) and their translation in the target text (TT). The secondary data are the result of the questionnaire given to three raters/ respondents to support the analysis of accuracy of the translation. The result of the analysis shows that 90 data (70, 3%) are translated with adjustment, while 38 data (29,7%) are translated without adjustment. There are six (6) classifications related with the types of adjustment. Based on the analysis 8 data (6,25%) are adjusted by addition, 8 data (6,25%) are adjusted by subtraction, and 47 data (36, 72%) are adjusted by alteration. Meanwhile, 3 data (2,3%) undergo addition and subtraction, 10 data (7, 8%) undergo addition and alteration, and 12 data (9, 4%) undergo subtraction and alteration. Supported by the result of the questionnaires, it is also found out that 76 data (59%) are included in very accurate translation with the mean score 3.60 to 4.00, 42 data (33%) are classified into accurate translation with the mean score 2.60 to 3.50, and 10 data (8%) are classified into inaccurate translation with the mean score 1.60 to 2.50. Meanwhile, there is no data which can be included in classification of very inaccurate translation with the mean score 1.00 to 1.50. It indicates that the translation is basically accurate.
