Translation Analysis Of Interjections Found In Bilingual Comics Of The Very Best Of Donald Duck Comics 15th Edition

× The objectives of this research are to describe the translation techniques applied by the translator to translate interjections, to asses the accuracy of the translation of interjection found in bilingual comic of The Very Best of Donald Duck Comics 15th Edition, and to the naturalness of the translation of interjection found in bilingual comic of The Very Best of Donald Duck Comics 15th edition. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. A purposive sampling technique was employed in this research. The data are all interjections found in bilingual comic of The Very Best of Donald Duck Comics 15th edition and their translation in Indonesian. The methods of data collection in this research were content analysis, interview and questionnaire. The content analysis method was applied to analyze the techniques used by the translator to translate the data. The interview method was applied to clarify the assessment and to avoid the significant different between the researcher and the raters or among raters. The questionnaire was used as an instrument to evaluate and give score of each datum dealing with the issue of accuracy and naturalness. In this research, there are eleven techniques applied by the translator to translate 502 data of interjections found in bilingual comic of The Very Best of Donald Duck Comics 15th edition. They are literal translation (87 data or 17.33%), translation by using an interjection with similar meaning and form (117 data or 23.30%), translation by using an interjection with dissimilar form but the same meaning (41 data or 8.17%), translation by using an interjection with different meaning (12 data or 2.39%), omission which is there two kinds, partly deleted (12 or 2.39%) and totally deleted (163 or 32.47%), addition (4 data or 0.8%), explicitation (9 data or 1.79%), recreation (1 datum or 0.20%), transcription (2 data or 0.40%), couplet (7data or 1.39% ), and borrowing (47 data or 9.36%) Dealing with the accuracy of interjections in bilingual comic of The Very Best of Donald Duck Comics 15th Edition, 326 are found accurate, 13 are less accurate and 163 are inaccurate from the total data of 502. Regarding to naturalness of the interjection translation, it is found that 320 data are translated naturally, 181 data are translated less naturally and 2 data are translated unnaturally into the target language. The technique producing the poorest level of accuracy and naturalness is omission of totally deleted technique while there are four techniques which can be offered to translate interjections with highest level of accuracy and naturalness, namely explicitation, recreation, transcription, and couplet technique.
