× The research aims at revealing whether: (1) Four Square Writing is more effective than Guided Writing to teach writing; (2) the students with high level of creativity have better writing skill than those with low level of creativity; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching techniques used and students’ levels of creativity. This research involves three variables; two independent variables and a dependent variable. The two independent variables are teaching techniques (Four Square Writing and Guided Writing) and students’ level of creativity. Meanwhile, the dependent variable is writing skill. The research examines the effect of the two independent variables on the dependent variable. The research was conducted in the second semester of the eleventh grade students of SMAN Karangpandan in the academic year of 2013/2014. The sampling used was cluster random sampling. The samples were two classes which consisted of 36 students of class IX Science 1 as the experimental class and 36 students of class IX Science 2 as the control class. The instruments used in this research covered creativity test and writing test. Before being applied, both the creativity and the writing test were tried out to test the readability of the test instruction. The data obtained from the treatment were analyzed using ANOVA 2x2 and Tukey test. The result of the research shows that: (1) Four Square Writing is more effective than Guided Writing to teach writing; (2) the students with high level of creativity have better writing skill than those with low level of creativity; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching techniques and the students’ level of creativity to teach writing. In conclusion, Four Square Writing is an effective technique to teach writing to the eleventh grade students of SMAN Karangpandan in the academic year of 2013/2014. However, in the implementation of the techniques, a teacher must consider about the students’ condition, in this case their level of creativity. As proved in the research, creativity influences the students’ writing skill. By considering the students’ level of creativity, a teacher can choose the technique he/she uses properly to teach writing in order to improve the students’ skill on writing
