Abstrak : This research is an attempt to describe Richard Wright’s worldview toward racial prejudice and discrimination. The objectives of this research are to describe the issue of racial prejudice and discrimination upon the life of Black Americans society as reflected in the novel Native Son and to describe Richard Wright’s view toward racial prejudice and discrimination upon the life of Black Americans society as reflected in the novel Native Son. In analyzing Richard Wright’s view, the researcher applies Genetic Structuralism proposed by Lucien Goldmann. The approach covers three aspects namely the intrinsic aspect of the work itself, author’s social background and society’s social background where and when the work was made. In analyzing the novel using Genetic Structuralism, the researcher explores the structure of the text then connects it with the social and historical condition of the society where and when the work was created. This research is a descriptive qualitative library research. It is descriptive since the collected data are in the form of words and sentences that have more meaning than only numbers and frequency. It is qualitative for the result of the research is not derived through enumeration process. It is also library research since the researcher uses the books and the other writings to support the subject matter of the research. The data were taken from Richard Wright’s Native Son published by Harper & Row Inc in 1940. The main data were words, phrases, sentences and statements in the novel related to the racial prejudice and discrimination upon the life of Black Americans society and Wright’s view on them. While the supporting data were taken from other sources, such as articles, criticism, essays, news about socio-historical information in the time when the author wrote the novel, biography and Internet. From the analysis, the research comes into conclusion that the racial prejudice and discrimination upon the life of the Black Americans society that are reflected in Richard Wright’s Native Son, covers some aspects of American life; they are in housing, in education, in employment, in law and justice. Through his novel of Native Son, Wright showed his worldview that the racial prejudice and discrimination were bad experiences and memories of his people’s life. They were the cause of Blacks’ impoverishment that made the Blacks could not improve their life and always lagged behind the Whites. He also viewed that they were the unfair treatments that should not be done by the Whites. Through his novel, Wright wanted to change the Whites’ opinion, attitude and behavior, so that they could treat the Blacks equally as their counterparts.
