Abstrak : This final project is written based on the job training, which has been done by the writer on February 1, 2007 at SDN Semanggi Lor Surakarta. The purposes are to know and to understand the English teaching and learning process at SDN Semanggi Lor Surakarta, including its difficulties of English teaching and learning process faced by the students and the teacher and also find the solution for those difficulties. By observing the class and directly teaching at the fourth grade and fifth grade classes, the writer can collect and analyze data for the project report completely. Before English teaching and learning begins, the writer uses some procedures in order to make English teaching and learning process run well. The procedures are covering greeting, introducing the material, explanation, exercises, and ending the lesson. The writer recognized the basic skills in English based on the assigned materials such as found in the LKS (The Student’s Practice Book) provided by school. Besides from teacher, from LKS students also learn 4 basic skills in English, they are speaking, writing, listening, and reading. The writer includes some activities such as playing games and singing songs. It is useful for students in order to make them be able to practice and become more familiar with English. During the English teaching and learning process, there are some difficulties. The difficulties are related to the problems of the teacher and the students. The students’ problems are memorizing English words, spelling, pronouncing, and writing English. Meanwhile, the problems of the teacher are big classes, uncooperative students, and difficulties in handling the students. The writer also presents the solution to solve the difficulties. From the discussion in this project report, we can know the importance of teaching English language to the primary level, especially elementary students, because English is a basic asset for them to prepare the next stages of education.
