× This research investigated the implementing of Simultaneous Roundtable in improving the students’ ability in employing references in writing descriptive text. The underlying reason in doing this research is related to the phenomenon that there were some problems of the students in using references in writing. The problems of the research are (1) can Simultaneous Roundtable improve the students’ ability in employing references in writing descriptive text at SMP Ta’mirul Islam Surakarta and (2) to what extent can Simultaneous Roundtable improve the quality of learning process. This research aims at (1) finding out whether Simultaneous Roundtable can improve the students’ ability in employing references in writing descriptive text and (2) examining whether Simultaneous Roundtable can improve the quality of learning process. This Classroom Action Research was conducted at SMP Ta’mirul Islam Surakarta, Central Java. The subject of the research was grade VIIIB. The research was carried out from June 2013 until December 2013 at class VIIIB. The research was conducted in three cycles, in which there are 4 meetings in each cycle. Every cycle consists of four steps: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The data collection were collected by using observation, interview, diary review, document analysis, questionnaire, and test (pre-test and post-test). The data are analyzed through interactive model which consists of data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion for the qualitative data and descriptive statistics for the quantitative data. The result of data were: (1) Simultaneous Roundtable can improve the Students’ Ability in Employing References in Writing Descriptive Text which includes (a) the students were able to use subjective pronoun, (b) the students were able to use objective pronoun, (c) the students were able to use possessive adjective, (d) the students were able to use possessive pronoun, and (e) the students were able to use determiner and (2) Simultaneous Roundtable can improve the Quality of Learning Process which includes (a) the students motivation increased, (b) the students’ mastering material increased, (c) the class climate increased. Simultaneous Roundtable method is an alternative method that benefits for the improvement of students’ achievement and for the learning process. Based on the findings as presented above, this research is expected to be very useful.
