×This reasearch originated from the authors interest in discourse governor
election (pilgub) that are appointed directly by the media. In Central Java governor
election there are three competing candidates the pair number one is Drs. Hadi
Prabowo, MM – Dr. H. Don Murdong, SH, M.Si, that carried PKS,PKB, Partai
Gerindra, PPP, Partai Hanura, dan PKNU coalition. Incumbent pair H. Bibit Waluyo
– Prof. Dr. Sudijono Sastroatmojo, M.Si at number two, that carried Partai Demokrat,
Golkar, dan PAN coalition. H. Ganjar Pranowo – Drs. H. HeruSudjatmoko, M.Si, that
carried by PDIP
The issue of media neutrality to be the main issue when media is in the middle
of competition between candidates for governor because the mass media can
influence the public to support and reject candidates. Media neutrality is a difficult
thing to achieve. However, as indicated in clause article 77 paragraph 1 of Law No.
32 of 2004 media must be professional by emphasizing neutrality by not giving
favorable coverage portion of one candidates.Because the news media as the product
not merely a conduit of information, but it has the power to build the perception of
the masses. News has the ability to provide public awareness to the reader, although
sometimes media built false consciousness. So the purpose of the study is to examine
how the Central Java governor election campaign news in the Solopos newspaper in
media neutrality perspective.
In this study, neutrality of the media parameter can be observed from the
absence of factors sensationalism, stereotypes, juxtaposition, lingkages in the news. If
in the media reports appears one or more elements of the cause the media to be nonneutral
in the governor election campaign news.
This study uses discourse analysis Teun A Van Dijk that consists of thematic
elements, schematic, semantic, syntactic, stylistic, and rhetorical to analyze the news
that shown by Solopos. Van Dijk discourse analysis is intended to see how the news
text is shown and see the intent of the news text that published by Solopos daily
news. From analysis of the text shown by Solopos, it can be seen how the neutrality
media in the governor election campaign.
From this study it can be concluded that Solopos have a purpose in presenting
news about the governor candidates who competing in the Central Java Governor
Election 2013. In news writing, not all text news from Solopos neutral in its
message. There are elements in the media who make Solopos neutrlity not neutral
especially on personalization elements. There are elements in the neutrality of media
which make Solopos not neutral especially the personalization element.
