× This research is conducted by analyzing the interrogative sentences and their translation in bilingual comics entitled Cinderella and Pinocchio. The aims of this research are to find out (1) the translation techniques which are applied by the translators to translate the interrogative sentences and (2) the impact of those techniques on the quality of interrogative sentence translation in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. This research belongs to descriptive-qualitative research. The source of data are 1) documents, bilingual children comics entitled Cinderella and Pinocchio and 2) informants, three raters and three respondents who assessed the quality of the translations. The data of this research are the interrogative sentences which are found in bilingual children comics entitled Cinderella and Pinocchio and the statements about translation quality gained from the informants. The data were collected by employing purposive sampling technique. The research was conducted by using content analysis, questionnaire and deep interview. The data were analyzed by using the theory of translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir (2002). The result of the data analysis shows that: 1) The translation techniques used by the translator are 7 single techniques and 28 multiple techniques. They are: Literal Translation (32/30.77%), Linguistic Compression (9/8.65%), Transposition (9/8.65%), Established Equivalent (6/5.76%), Reduction (3/2.88%), Modulation (2/1.92%), Variation (2/1.92%), Variation + Literal (6/5.77%), Variation + Established Equivalent (4/3.85%), Variation + Transposition (3/2.88%), Variation + Amplification (2/1.92%), Particularization + Literal (2/1.92%), Amplification + Transposition (2/1.92%), Borrowing + Reduction (1/0.96%), Borrowing + Literal (1/0.96%), Adaptation + Established Equivalent (1/0.96%), Variation + Reduction (1/0.96%), Variation + Compensation (1/0.96%), Established Equivalent + Literal (1/0.96%), Borrowing + Established Equivalent (1/0.96%), Borrowing + Modulation (1/0.96%), Reduction + Generalization (1/0.96%), Reduction + Amplification (1/0.96%), Generalization + Transposition (1/0.96%), Generalization + Modulation (1/0.96%), Generalization + Compensation (1/0.96%), Linguistic Compression + Established equivalent (1/0.96%), Linguistic Compression + Amplification (1/0.96%), Linguistic Compression + Particularization (1/0.96%), Borrowing + Particularization (1/0.96%), Reduction + Variation (1/0.96%), Amplification + Established Equivalent (1/0.96%, Adaptation + Reduction + Variation (1/0.96%), Modulation + Transposition + Established equivalent (1/0.96%), Transposition + Reduction + Variation (1/0.96%). 2) The result of the quality translation. The accuracy shows that: 87 data (83.65%) are accurate and 17 data (16.35%) are less accurate. Meanwhile, relating to the acceptability aspect, the result shows: 90 data (87.5%) are acceptable and 14 data (12.5%) are less acceptable. The result of the readability shows that: 99 data (95.19%) are categorized as readable translation and 5 data (4.81%) are categorized as less readable translation. Literal translation produces the most numbers of accurate, acceptable and readable translations. It can be concluded that generally, the translations tend to be accurate, acceptable and readable. The techniques used by the translator give good impact to the translation quality. It is also found out that in translating bilingual children comic the translation should pay attention to the cultural background and language use in the target language. This research is intended to bring benefits for students, translators, and other researchers who are interested in observing interrogative sentence. This research can be used as reference or to give additional information about interrogative sentence translation in bilingual children comic for the readers.
