× The main objective of the research is to reveal whether: (1) Collaborative Writing Strategy (CWS) is more effective than Metacognitive Writing Strategy (MWS) to teach writing at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 3 Wonosari, Gunungkidul in the academic year of 2013/ 2014; (2) the eighth grade who have high creativity have better writing skill than those who have low creativity; and (3) there is interaction between the teaching methods and the creativity in teaching writing. An experimental research was applied in this study. The population of the research was the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 3 Wonosari in the academic year of 2013/2014. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. The sample in this study was 64 students covering 32 students of E as experimental class and 32 students of C as control class. The research instruments consist of a creativity test and writing test. Before the tests are used, the researcher conducted a try-out to know the readability of the tests. After treatments were given in eight meetings, the data of the students’ writing scores were analyzed in terms of their frequency distribution, normality, and homogeneity. Then ANOVA and Tuckey tests were used to test the research hypotheses. The result of the research reveals that: (1) CWS is more effective than MWS to teach writing to the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 3 Wonosari, Gunungkidul in the academic year of 2013/2014; (2) the students having high creativity have better writing skill than the students having low creativity; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching methods and the students’ creativity in teaching writing. The research findings show that the use of Collaborative Writing Strategy (CWS) is effective to teach writing for the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 3 Wonosari, Gunungkidul in the academic year of 2013/ 2014. In the implementation of the methods, the teachers should consider about the students’ level of creativity. As shown in this research, creativity influences the students writing skills. By considering the level of creativity, a teacher can choose the proper strategy to teach writing in order to improve the students’ writing skills.
