Abstrak : The aims of this study are to describe: (1) whether or not blog can improve the students‟ skill in writing hortatory exposition text; and (2) the classroom situation when blog is applied during the teaching learning process. The research was carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Gemolong, Sragen. The approach used in this research was a classroom action research. It was conducted from August 2012 to February 2013. The subject of the research was the students of class XI.IPA1 of SMA Negeri 1 Gemolong Sragen in the academic year of 2012/2013. The researcher collected the data using qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were collected from observation and interview, while quantitative data was collected from the students‟ writing score in pre-test and post-test. The research was conducted in two cycles, in which in the first cycle there were four meetings and the second cycle were three meetings. The research findings show that blog can improve the students‟ skill in writing hortatory exposition text. The improvement of students‟ skill in writing were: (1) using correct spelling and punctuation; (2) using appropriate vocabulary; (3) making sentences grammatically correct; (4) organizing the text into logical sequencing text; (5) developing the ideas into coherent paragraph and text. Blog can also improve the classroom situation. The improvement of the classroom situation by using blog indicated by: (1) students accessed teacher blog and other blog post as the references; (2) students did not chat with their friends while teaching learning process; (3) students paid full attention and involved in the teaching learning process; (4) students optimized their gadget to access teacher blog and online dictionary; (5) students were encouraged to write. Based on this research, it can be concluded that the use of blog as a media in teaching and learning process is a good choice to teach writing skill. The use of blog can improve the students‟ skill in writing hortatory exposition text. Therefore the researcher expects that blog can be implemented and used in other writing classes.
