×This Thesis Is Written To Identify: (1) Whether And To What Extent Reflective
Practice Through Students’ Dialogue Video Recording Improve Students’ Speaking
Skill, And (2) The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Reflective Practice Through Students’
Dialogue Video Recording When It Is Implemented In Teaching And Learning Process.
The Research Method Used In This Research Is Action Research Which Involves
Four Stages, Namely: Planning, Implementing, Observing, And Reflecting. The
Research Was Conducted In Two Cycles From November 9th Until December 7th 2013
At The Seventh Grade Students Of Smp Kristen 4 Monginsidi Surakarta. The
Research Data Are Collected Through Observation, Interview, Questionnaire And
Speaking Tests. The Data Are Then Analysed Through The Procedure Of Assembling,
Coding, Comparing, Building Interpretations, And Reporting The Outcomes.
The Research Findings Point Out That (1) Reflective Practice Through Students’
Dialogue Video Recording Improves Students’ Speaking Skill, Which The Students
Could: A) Develop Their Vocabularies, B) Pronounce Words/Phrases In Acceptable
Pronunciation, C) Speak Fluently Without Too Many Pauses Or Repetition, D) Use The
Grammar Correctly, Recognize The Wrong And Correct Grammar, And Correct The
Wrong Grammar. Additionally, The Students’ Mean Score Also Improves From 34 In
Pre-Test, 45 In Test 1 And Lastly It Increases Up To 64.5 In Post-Test. (2) There Are
Strengths And Weaknesses Of Reflective Practice Students’ Dialogue Video
Recording. The Strengths Are: A) The Method, Technique And Media Improve The
Students’ Speaking Skill; B) It Attracts Most Of The Students’ Attention To The Lesson;
C) The Activities Are Facilitating The Students To Speak In The Right Time And Context;
D) The Method, Technique And Media Attract Most Of The Students’ Interest To The
Lesson And Assignment; E) The Activities Are Enjoyable And Fun; F) The Method And
Media Facilitate The Students In Doing Evaluation; G) The Technique Encourages The
Students To Make Dialogue Orally. Whereas, The Weaknesses Are: A) The Method And
Technique Cannot Work Well Without Other Supporting Activities; B) Video Recording
Activity Cannot Work Well In Noisy Situation; C) There Is Potential Technical Problem
Using Video Recording; D) The Media Needs Various Tools To Support The Activities.
Thus, I Hope That This Teaching Method, Technique, And Media Can Be
Beneficial For Other Teachers To Be Applied In Their Class. Since, It Is Not Only
Improves Students’ Speaking Skill But Also Attracts Their Interest In Order To Make
Teaching Learning Process Enjoyable And Fun.
