The Implementation Of Roundtable Technique To Improve Students’ Critical Thinking In Writing (A Classroom Action Research Of The Second Semester Students Of Stmik Duta Bangsa Surakarta In The Academic Year Of 2013/2014)

× This Thesis Aims To Describe (1) Whether And To What Extent The Implementation Of Roundtable Technique Improves Students’ Critical Thinking In Writing; (2) The Difficulties Which Occur In Implementing Roundtable Technique In Improving Students’ Critical Thinking In Writing. This Action Research Study Is Carried Out In The Second Semester Of Stmik Duta Bangsa Surakarta In The Academic Year Of 2013/2014, Sistem Informasi (Si) Program. The Research Is Carried Out In 2 Cycles. Every Cycle Consists Of Four Steps: Planning, Implementing, Observing, And Reflecting. The Qualitative Data Are Collected By Using Techniques Of Observation And Documentation, While Quantitative Data Are Collected By Using Test (Pre-Test And Post-Test). The Qualitative Data Are Analyzed Through Descriptive Analysis Which Consists Of Assembling The Data, Coding The Data, Comparing The Data, Building Interpretation, And Reporting The Outcomes. The Quantitative Data Are Analyzed Through Descriptive Statistics. The Research Findings Show That Roundtable Technique Can Improve Students’ Critical Thinking In Writing And Its Difficulties Found In The Implementation. Related To The Improvement Of Critical Thinking, It Includes: (1) The Students Were Able To Provide Relevant Arguments Clearly. (2) The Students Were Able To Provide Longer Explanation By Using Evidence, Statements, Facts, Opinion, Etc. (3) The Students Gave Different Point Of View In The Arguments. (4) Most Students Were Able To Elaborate Their Assumptions Using Reasons. (5) The Students Gave Clear And Consistent Conclusion. The Students’ Mean Score Of Critical Thinking Was Improved From 8.94 To 12.16 In The End Of Cycle 2. The Mean Score Of Writing Also Improves From 66.25 To 74.9. Meanwhile, The Difficulties Found In Implementing Roundtable Technique To Improve Students’ Critical Thinking In Writing: (1) The Students Weren’t Accustomed To The Roundtable Technique Rules. (2) The Group Forming Was Noisy And Took Some Minutes. (3) There Were Groups Who Did Not Function Well. (4) The Time Limit Was Too Short For The Students. (5) It Was Hard To Control The Students Who Kept Asking Their Friends About What They Should Write. (6) The One With Lower Speed Felt Intimidated By The Smarter Students In The Group. In Conclusion, The Implementation Of Roundtable Technique Can Improve The Students’ Critical Thinking In Writing. Roundtable Technique Is A Teaching Method That Contributes Benefits For The Students’ Achievement
