A study of techniques and quality of translation of the movie storybook spider-man into Indonesian

× This study is a descriptive-qualitative study with an embedded case study research design. The purposes of the study are (1) to describe the techniques used by the translator to translate Movie Storybook Spider-Man into Indonesian (2) to study the effect of the techniques used toward the translation of Movie Storybook Spider-Man into Indonesian in terms of accuracy, acceptability and readability. The sources of data of the research are a Movie Storybook Spider-Man and its translation in Indonesian, selected using total sampling technique. The research objects are in form of sentences. Two methods of data collection were employed: content analysis used to obtain data from both source and target texts and questionnaire was used to gather data of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. The accuracy and acceptability of translated text were rated by three raters while its readability was rated by three target readers. The results of the data analysis show that: (1) there are seven translation techniques used to translate Movie Storybook Spider-Man into Indonesian The techniques are transposition, reduction, amplification, borrowing, adaptation, generalization, and particularization, (2) the chosen techniques contribute positively to the accuracy, acceptability and readability of the translated text. The average score of accuracy is 1.12. It means that the content of the source text is accurately conveyed into the target text and the translated text is clear to the evaluator. The average score of acceptability of the translated text is 1.13. It means that the translated text sounds natural, almost does not feel like translation. The average score of readability is 1.16. This average score means that the translation of the Movie Storybook Spider-Man into Indonesian is easy to understand. As the average score of those three aspects is 1.14, it can be concluded that the translation of Movie Storybook Spider-Man into Indonesian is of high quality
