Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui: (1) kesulitan-kesulitan yang dialami siswa kelas VII SMP dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal yang terkait dengan materi Gerak Lurus, (2) penyebab kesulitan siswa kelas VII SMP dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal yang terkait dengan materi Gerak Lurus ditinjau dari setiap langkah penyelesaian, (3) solusi dalam mengatasi kesulitan siswa kelas VII SMP dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal yang terkait dengan materi Gerak Lurus.
Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang dilakukan pada siswa kelas VII F SMP Negeri 16 Surakarta. Analisis data dilakukan terhadap 6 siswa yang dipilih sebagai subjek penelitian dari 24 siswa kelas VII F. Pemilihan subjek penelitian dengan teknik purposive sampling yaitu siswa yang melakukan kesulitan yang secara umum dilakukan oleh siswa lain atau siswa yang melakukan kesulitan beda dengan siswa lain. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan teknik observasi, tes, dan teknik wawancara. Validasi data dilakukan dengan triangulasi data, membandingkan data hasil observasi, data hasil tes, dan data hasil wawancara serta dilakukan triangulasi data. Analisa data dilakukan melalui tahap reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan: jenis dan penyebab kesulitan yang dialami siswa dalam mengerjakan soal Gerak Lurus adalah (a) Kesulitan memahami konsep, kesulitan ini terjadi ketika siswa tidak memahami konsep materi atau mengalami miskonsepsi. (b) Kesulitan menerapkan konsep, kesulitan ini terjadi ketika siswa memahami konsep macam-macam gerak, Gerak Lurus Beraturan (GLB), Gerak Lurus Berubah Beraturan (GLBB), tetapi tidak dapat menerapkannya dalam mengerjakan soal. (c) Kesulitan menggunakan simbol Fisika (bahasa Matematika), kesulitan ini terjadi ketika siswa tidak mengetahui simbol-simbol yang digunakan untuk Fisika dalam materi Gerak Lurus. (d) Kesulitan hitungan, kesulitan ini terjadi ketika siswa mengalami kesulitan terkain perhitungan untuk menyelesaikan soal. (e) Kesulitan membaca grafik, kesulitan ini terjadi ketika siswa tidak dapat membaca grafik hubungan dalam materi Gerak Lurus Beraturan (GLB) dan Gerak Lurus Berubah Beraturan (GLBB). (f) Kesulitan memahami soal, kesulitan ini terjadi ketika siswa mengalami kesulitan memahami soal dengan benar, misalnya soal mengenai gerak relatif. Solusi untuk mengatasi kesulitan tersebut: (a) Metode mengajar guru dirubah ke metode yang lebih efektif, misalnya diskusi informasi. (b) Membuat peta konsep agar materi yang diberikan lebih terarah. (c) Dalam penjelasan materi guru harus benar-benar dapat menjelaskan materi dasar sampai aplikasinya. (d) Dalam pemberian PR sebaiknya guru menyuruh siswa mengumpulkan PR sehari sebelum pelajaran Fisika agar guru mengetahui siswa mengerjakan sendiri atau tidak. Guru juga dapat mengetahui bagian mana siswa mengalami kesulitan, sehingga guru dapat menjelaskannya ketika pembelajaran Fisika.
Implikasi dari penelitian ini guru diharapkan dapat: (1) Merubah metode yang digunakan guru yaitu metode Student Center Learning (SCL). (2) Memberikan motivasi siswa dalam kegiatan pembelajaran Fisika sehingga siswa tidak takut dan menjadi suka dalam mengikuti pembelajaran serta dalam mengerjakan soal-soal Fisika. (3) Memberikan tugas untuk mengerjakan soal-soal Fisika secara terpadu  disertai pembahasannya sehingga melatih kreatifitas siswa dalam mengerjakan soal. (4) Memberikan konsep dasarnya sehingga siswa tidak kebanyakan menghapal rumus serta siswa tidak cenderung menggunakan rumus praktis

The aims of the research are: (1) to know the difficulties occurred on the seventh grade students of junior high school in doing physics subject matters about linear motion, (2) to know the causes of difficulties occurred on the seventh grade students of junior high school in doing physics subject matters about linear motion seen by every single step of problem solving, (3) to know the solution in overcoming the difficulties occurred on the seventh grade students of junior high school in doing physics subject matters about linear motion.
 The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method, carried out on the seventh grade students (class VII F) of SMP Negeri 16 Surakarta. Data analysis was conducted toward 6 chosen students as the research subject of 24 students in class VII F. The selection of research subject used purposive sampling technique; the student who did the mistakes generally did by the other student too or the student who did different mistakes from the other student. The data is collected through observation, test and interview. Data validation is done through triangulation, comparing the result of data observation, the result of test, the result of interview and triangulation data.
The research findings showed that: the kind and causes of difficulties occurred on the seventh grade students of junior high school in doing physics subject matters about linear motion were (a) the difficulty in understanding the concept, this difficulty occurred when the students did not understand the concept or misconception, (b) the difficulty in applying the concept, this difficulty occurred when the students understand the concept of the variety of motion, uniform linear motion, accelerated uniform linear motion but did not apply it in the subject matter, (c) the difficulty in using Physics symbols (Math Language), this difficulty happened when the students did not know the physics symbol in Linear Motion, (d) quantification difficulty, this difficulty happened when the students got difficulty in the quantification to solve the matter, (e) the difficulty in reading graphic, this difficulty occurred when the students could not read the relation graphic in motion, uniform linear motion and accelerated uniform linear motion, (f) the difficulty in understanding the matter, this difficulty happened when the students misunderstood the matter well, for example the matter about relative motion. The solutions for overcoming those difficulties are: (a) Teacher’s teaching technique should be changed into more effective one, for example information discussion, (b) Make concept of mapping so that the lesson taught more acceptable, (c) In explaining the lesson, the teacher really should explain the basic of the lesson until the application, (d) In giving homework, teacher should ask the students to submit the homework one day before Physics lesson in order to know whether the students did the homework by their self or not. Teacher also can find which part of the lesson that the students get the difficulties, so the teacher can explain it when Physics lesson happened.
The implication of this research is the teacher expected to: (1) change the teacher’s technique into Student Center Learning (SCL), (2) give motivation or encouragement to the students in order the students will not be afraid and will like the process of teaching and learning also in doing physics matter, (3) give task to do integrative physics matter with its way to find the result so it can exercise the students’ motivation in doing the task, (4) give the basic concept so the students will not abandoned in memorize the formulas and the students will not tend to use practice formulas.
