ABSTRACT
The objectives of this research are (1) To reveal whether and to what extant audio visual text facilitate to increase students’ creativity in writing narrative text; (2) To reveal the difficulties in implementing Audio Visual Media in this research. The preliminary research showed that the students had lack of creativity in writing narrative text. This research was conducted at SMP N 1 Ampel, Boyolali. The subjects of the research were the students of class VIII B consisting of 32 students. The method of this research was Classroom Action Research and it was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle covered planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation field note, interview, diary, and written test. Having collecting the data, the researcher analyzed quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic (DS). It compared between the mean score of pre-test and post-test 1 and 2. The qualitative data were analyzed using Interactive Model which consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
The result of this research showed that: (1) audiovisual media can enhance the students’ creativity in writing narrative text: (a) students could provide narrative text recognize which comprises necessary content and organization of a narrative text; (b) students could write narrative text in correct English grammar commonly used in narrative text. (2) audiovisual aids can improve classroom condition: a) The students were enjoyed during the teaching learning process. b) The students were pay attention in teaching learning process. c) Students were active in teaching learning process. d) The students were enthusiastic in teaching learning process. Besides, it also improves writing students’ score: pretest 56.25; test on Cycle 1 70.63; test on Cycle 2 83.63. This posttest is higher than the English passing grade (KKM/Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal) that is 78.
Based on the research findings, Audio Visual Media can enhance the students‘ creativity in writing narrative text and the classroom situation. It can be stated that English class became more conducive when the teacher used audio visual media in teaching-learning process, the suggestion is made for the English teacher, they should use Audio Visual Media as the alternative strategy and apply this media in teaching and learning of writing narrative text which supported by appropriate and prepared materials.
