ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) menganalisis kategori majas hiperbola dalam novel The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, (2) menganalisis teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan majas hiperbola, (3) menganalisis pergeseran majas yang terjadi sebagai akibat dari penerapan teknik penerjemahan, dan (4) mengetahui dampak pergeseran majas hiperbola terhadap kualitas terjemahan majas hiperbola yang mencakup aspek keakuratan, keberterimaan, dan keterbacaan. Analisis pengelompokan kategori majas hiperbola dalam penelitian ini mengacu pada teori Cano Mora (2009). Kemudian, untuk teknik penerjemahan yang diterapkan adalah teori dari Molina dan Albir (2002). Dalam menganalisis kualitas terjemahan, penelitian ini berdasar pada instrumen penilai kualitas terjemahan menurut Nababan dkk (2012). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan kasus tunggal. Sumber data dari penelitian ini adalah dokumen yang berupa novel The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers dan terjemahannya. Selain itu, informan yang terdiri dari para rater yang menilai kualitas terjemahan dari aspek keakuratan, keberterimaan dan keterbacaan juga merupakan sumber data dalam penelitian ini. Data dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 67 data berupa majas hiperbola yang terdapat dalam novel The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers serta terjemahannya, The Lord of the Rings: Dua Menara. Hasil kuesioner dari para rater juga termasuk dalam data penelitian. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan mengacu teori Spradley yang berupa analisis domain, analisis taksonomi, analisis komponensial, dan analisis tema budaya. Menurut hasil analisis, terdapat 67 data majas hiperbola yang ditemukan dalam novel The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Kemudian data tersebut terbagi menjadi 2 kategori, yaitu: 54 data termasuk dalam kategori evaluative realm, dan 13 data termasuk dalam kategori quantitative realm. Penelitian ini menerapkan beberapa varian teknik penerjemahan, yaitu varian tunggal, kuplet, triplet, dan kuartet. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan 10 teknik penerjemahan yang diterapkan, yaitu teknik kesepadanan lazim, variasi, reduksi, amplifikasi, kompensasi, modulasi, transposisi, amplifikasi linguistik, kompresi linguistik, dan peminjaman. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penerapan varian teknik penerjemahan tersebut menghasilkan terjemahan yang tidak bergeser, bergeser menjadi majas lain, dan bergeser menjadi tak bermajas/netral. Secara keseluruhan, nilai rata-rata kualitas terjemahan majas hiperbola dalam novel The Lord of the Rings: Dua Menara termasuk dalam kategori terjemahan sedang yaitu 2,62.

ABSTRACT
This study is aimed at (1) analyzing the categories of hyperbole in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers novel, (2) analyzing the translation techniques used by the translator in translating hyperbole, (3) analyzing the figurative language shifts as the result of the application of the translation techniques, and (4) determining the impact of the translation techniques towards the translation’s quality of hyperbole in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. In analyzing the categorisation of hyperbole, this study is based on Cano Mora’s theory (2009). The application of translation techniques in analyzing the data is based on Molina and Albir’s theory (2002). Then, in analyzing the translation quality, this study uses translation quality assessment by Nababan et al. The method of this study is descriptive qualitative and focuses on single case study. The source of data is a document, particularly a novel entitled The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and its translation. Questionnaires from the raters that asses the translations quality also belong to the source of data in this study. There are 67 data found in the novel The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and its translation. The results of the translation quality assessments are also the part of data. The technique of data analysis is based on Spradley’s theory, i.e: domain analysis, taxonomy analysis, componential analysis, and finding cultural value. The result of analysis shows that there are 67 data of hyperbole found in the novel The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Then, the data are categorized into two, in which 54 data belong to evaluative realm and 13 data belong to quantitative realm. The variant techniques applied in this study are single, kuplet, triplet, and quartet. There are 10 translation techniques found, i.e: established equivalence, variation, reduction, amplification, compensation, modulation, transposition, linguistic amplification, linguistic compression, and borrowing. The application of the variant techniques of translation has some impacts to the translation, such as: translation shifting into another figurative language and into denotative form, besides, almost a half of the translations are still in its form. Generally, the quality of the hyperbole translations in the novel The Lord of the Rings: Dua Menara is in average quality, which has 2.6 point as the sum of the quality assessment’s score.
