The objectives of this research are to find out the correlation between (1) students’ motivation and students’ translation; (2) students’ vocabulary and students’ translation; and (3) students’ motivation, students’ vocabulary, towards students’ translation.
This research used quantitative method, that is correlational study. The study was carried out in June 2014 at English Education Department in Sebelas Maret University. The population was all the sixth semester students of English Education Department in Sebelas Maret University which consists of three classes. The total number of the students was 89 students. The sample was 35 students taken by cluster random sampling technique. The instruments in collecting the data were questionnaire and test. The questionnaire was used to collect the data of students’ motivation; while the objectives test was used to collect the data of students’ vocabulary and students’ translation. The techniques which were used to analyze the data were Single Correlation and Multiple Correlation.
The results of the data analysis show that in the level of significance a = 0.05 (1) there is a positive correlation between students’ motivation and students’ translation (rx1y = 0.4012 > rt = 0.334); (2) there is a positive correlation between students’ vocabulary and students’ translation (rx2y = 57.11 > rt = 0.334); and (3) there is a positive correlation between students’ motivation, students’ vocabulary, and students’ translation (Ry12 = 0.63 and Fo = 10.69 > Ft = 3.35).
Based on the result of the study, it can be implied that motivation and vocabulary are important factors that give contribution to students’ translation. Both motivation and vocabulary have positive contribution in translation, it is 55.65%. Therefore, students’ motivation and students’ vocabulary should be considered in increasing students’ translation, although the factors are not only come from those variables.
