ABSTRAKS
Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana sebenarnya remaja dalam memainkan identitasnya (play identity), dan mengetahui bentuk – bentuk permainan identitas yang dilakukan remaja. Juga mencari bagaimana remaja melakukan play identity.
Masalah pokok dalam penelitian ini bagaimana remaja dalam mempermainkan identitasnya di media sosial Facebook, identitas macam apa yang terbentuk dari permainan identitas tersebut, serta alasan remaja dalam mempermainkan identitas remaja di media sosial Facebook. Mengacu pada teori dari Identitas On-line dari Zao, dkk. (2008) menyatakan munculnya Internet telah mengubah kondisi produk tradisional identitas. Identitas secara fisik terlepas dari pertemuan sosial di lingkungan on-line, sehingga mungkinkan bagi individu untuk berinteraksi dengan satu sama lain di internet dengan modus teks penuh tanpa mengungkapkan apa-apa tentang karakteristik fisik mereka. Teori Johari Window terdapat empat jenis kepribadian dalam Identity Play: open, blind, hidden dan blur. Pendapat Muangman dikutip oleh Sarlito (2000) mengatakan bahwa remaja adalah Individu mengalami perkembangan psikologis dan pola identifikasi dan kanak-kanak menjadi dewasa.
Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yakni studi analisis deskriptif kualitatif adalah penelitian yang dilakukan pemeriksaan longitudinal secara mendalam terhadap suatu keadaan atau kejadian dengan menggunakan cara-cara yang sistematis dalam melakukan pengamatan, pengumpulan data, analisis informasi, dan pelaporan hasilnya. Penelitian dilakukan di lima Sekolah Menengah Atas dan Kejuruan Muhammadiyah Surakarta yakni: SMA Muhammadiyah 1, SMA Muhammadiyah 2, SMA Muhammadiyah 3 dan SMK Muhammadiyah 2. Jumlah responden seluruhnya adalah 98 siswa. Subyek penelitian adalah siswa telah memiliki akun facebook telah lebih dari 1 tahun dan aktif aktif dalam mengakses akun facebook-nya. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi akun Facebook mereka. Kemudian data-data yang digunakan di uji kredibilitas dengan model triangulasi.
Hasil penelitian menyatakan remaja SMA Muhammadiah di Surakarta sebagian besar masih berada pada area terbuka yakni Bright Identity , seperti karakter orang timur yang masih terbuka dan ramah terhadap orang lain. Selebihnya melakukan penyamaran identitas (Blur Identity) dan bahkan penyembunyian identitas aslli mereka ( Blind Identity)

ABSTRACT
The objectives of research were to reveal how the adolescents actually play their identity, and to find out the forms of identity playing the adolescents do. This study also aimed to find out how the adolescents play their identity.
The main problem of research was how the adolescents play their identity in social media Facebook, what type of identity is created from the identity playing, and the adolescents’ reasons in playing their identity in social media Facebook. This study referred to On-Line Identity theory from Zao et al (2008) stating that the presence of Internet has changed the condition of traditional identity product. Identity is, physically, independent of social encounter in on-line setting, so that it enables individual to interact with another in internet with full text mode without suggesting anything about their physical characteristic. Johari Window’s theory states that there are four types of personality in identity play: open, blind, hidden, and blur. Muangman in Sarlito (2000) suggested that adolescent is an individual experiencing psychological development and identification pattern and child becomes adult.
The type of study employed in this research was case study, the one conducted with longitudinal in-depth investigation on a condition or event called a case using systematical method in conducting observation, data collection, information analysis and reporting of its finding. This research was taken place in five Muhammadiyah Senior High and Vocational Middle Schools in Surakarta: SMA Muhammadiyah 1, MA Muhammadiyah 2, SMA Muhammadiyah 3, and SMK Muhammadiyah 2. The respondents consisted of 98 students. The subject of research was the students who had had facebook account more than 1 year and were active in accessing their facebook account. Techniques of collecting data employed were interview, observation, and documentation of their Facebook account. Then, the data used had been tested for its credibility using triangulation method.
The result of research stated that the adolescents of SMA Muhammadiyah in Surakarta made identity play in facebook in level text area: picture profile, information, and language. The language styles used were feminine and masculine. Identity play in facebook lied on mature and masking identities. The adolescents’ perception in identity play was that it (1) facilitated them to be recognized by friends, (2) featured their personal advantage (strength), and (3) showed off their hobby.
