ABSTRACT
The objectives of research were: (1) to find out the deaf students’ way of exploring and developing idea in making painting work, (2) to find out the students’ subject matter and idea in making painting work, and (3) to find out the visualization in the deaf students’ painting.
This research directed to qualitative approach, using a single embedded case study. The data source derived directly from corresponding respondent: headmaster of SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar, deaf students of SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar, art teacher of SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar, teacher of SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar and several related persons in research, event and research location, and document. The sample of research was taken using Purposive Sampling. Techniques of collecting data used were observation, interview and documentation. The data validation was done using source triangulation and informant review. The data analysis interaktif was processed into three stages: (1) data reduction, (2) data display, and (3) conclusion drawing. The research procedure encompassed pre-field, field work, data analysis, and report writing stages.
The results of research were as follows. (1) The learning process of deaf students in SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar in determining the theme involved the students’ own experience. (2) The largest constraint with the painting learning in the students of SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar was limited knowledge vocabulary on the type of object the students understood and the difference of object concept between teacher and students. (3) The visual form of painting by the deaf students of SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar had typical characteristic in which the form of object in the painting did not change despite the use of different media. The theme tended to be preferred was surrounding nature exp farmer or mountain. The color preferred in painting with oil paint media was the tube original one, red, yellow and blue.

ABSTRAK
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) mengetahui cara menggali dan mengembangkan ide dalam berkarya lukis siswa tuna rungu, (2) mengetahui subject matter atau ide dalam berkarya lukis siswa tuna rungu, (3) mengetahui visualisasi pada lukisan siswa tuna rungu.
Penelitian ini mengarah pada pendekatan kualitatif, dengan menggunakan studi kasus tunggal terpancang. Sumber data berasal langsung dari informan yang bersangkutan yaitu Siswa tuna rungu kelas VII di SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar dan beberapa orang yang masih terkait dalam penelitian, peristiwa dan tempat penelitian, dan dokumen. Sampel penelitian diambil berdasarkan Purposive Sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Validitas data menggunakan teknik triangulasi sumber dan reviu informan. Analisis data diproses dalam tiga tahap, yaitu : (1) reduksi data, (2) penyajian data, (3) penarikan kesimpulan. Prosedur penelitian melalui, tahap pra lapangan, tahap pekerjaan lapangan, tahap analisis data, dan tahap penyusunan laporan.
Hasil penelitian yang didapatkan adalah: (1) Proses pembelajaran siswa tuna rungu di SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar dalam hal menentukan tema melibatkan pengalaman siswa itu sendiri. (2) Kendala terbesar dari pembelajaran lukis siswa di SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar yaitu keterbatasan perbendaraan pengetahuan akan jenis obyek yang dimengerti siswa dan perbedaan konsep benda antara guru dan siswa. (3). Bentuk visual karya lukis siswa tuna rungu di SLB-B YPALB Karanganyar memiliki ciri khas khusus yaitu bentuk objek dalam lukisan tidak berubah meski menggunakan media yang berbeda. Kecenderungan tema yang dipilih adalah tema alam sekitar alam. Warna yang dipilih dalam melukis dengan media cat minyak cenderung warna asli tube.
