ABSTRAK
Penelitian tindakan kelas ini bertujuan untuk: (1) meningkatkan kualitas proses
pembelajaran menulis berita dengan menerapkan model Problem Based Learning dan
media lingkungan sekolah dan (2) meningkatkan keterampilan menulis berita dengan
menerapkan model Problem Based Learning dan media lingkungan sekolah pada siswa
kelas VIII C SMP Kristen 5 Surakarta. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada awal Januari 2015
hingga akhir Juni 2015. Pendekatan penelitian adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek
penelitian adalah guru dan siswa kelas VIII-C SMP Kristen 5 Surakarta. Data berupa
RPP, foto, hasil tes, catatan lapangan, daftar nilai, dan catatan hasil wawancara. Sumber
data meliputi: informan, tempat dan proses pembelajaran, dan dokumen. Teknik
pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, tes, dan dokumen. Uji validitas data
menggunakan triangulasi metode dan triangulasi sumber data. Teknik analisis data
dengan teknik analisis kritis dan teknik deskriptif komparatif. Indikator ketercapaian
sebesar 84%. Prosedur penelitian meliputi persiapan, survei awal, pelaksanaan siklus,
pengamatan, dan pelaporan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model
Problem Based Learning dan penggunaana media lingkungan sekolah mampu
meningkatkan kualitas proses pembelajaran menulis teks berita siswa yang ditandai
dengan meningkatnya perhatian, keaktifan, dan keterlaksanaan pembelajaran. Penelitian
ini juga menjelaskankan bahwa dengan menerapkan model Problem Based Learning
dan penggunaan media lingkungan sekolah dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis
teks berita siswa kelas VIII-C SMP Kristen 5 Surakarta. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil
tindakan yang dilakukan selama dua siklus. Pada pratindakan jumlah siswa yang
memperoleh nilai di atas KKM (75) 9 siswa (36%) dengan nilai rata-rata 66.00 Pada
siklus I siswa tuntas meningkat menjadi 16 siswa (64%) dengan nilai rata-rata 73,60.
Pada siklus II siswa yang mencapai KKM sebanyak 21 siswa (84%) dengan nilai ratarata
76,40. Pada siklus II ini pencapaian nilai baik secara kualitas proses maupun hasil
telah mencapai ketuntasan yang lebih dari 80%. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan
bahwa pembelajaran menulis teks berita dengan model Problem Based Learning dan
penggunaan media lingkungan sekolah dapat meningkatkan kualitas proses maupun
kemampuan menulis siswa.

ABSTRACT
The aims of this research were: (1) Improve the quality of the learning process of
writing news by applying the model of Problem Based Learning and media school
environment and (2) Improve the skills of news writing by applying a model of Problem
Based Learning and media school in class VIII C SMP Christian 5 Surakarta. The
experiment was conducted at the beginning of January 2015 until the end of June 2015.
The approach of this research is classroom action research. The subjects were teachers
and students of class VIII-C Christian SMP 5 Surakarta. Data in the form of RPP,
photo, test results, field notes, list of values, and record the interviews. Data sources
include: informants, places and learning processes, and documents. The technique of
collecting data through observation, interviews, tests, and documents. Test the validity
of the data using triangulation methods and triangulation of data sources. Data analysis
techniques with engineering critical analysis and comparative descriptive techniques.
Indicators of achievement of 84%. Research procedure includes the preparation, the
initial survey, the implementation cycle, observations, and reporting. The results
showed that the application of the Problem Based Learning model and the using of
media school environment can improve the quality of the learning process students
write a text message that is marked by increasing attention , liveliness , and a feasibility
study. The study also shows that by applying the model of Problem Based Learning and
media use the school environment can improve the ability to write text news - C class
VIII SMP Christian 5 Surakarta . It can be seen from the results of the actions
performed during two cycles . At the pre-test number of students scoring above the
KKM ( 75 ) 9 students ( 36 % ) with an average value of 66.00 students completed the
first cycle increased to 16 students ( 64 % ) with an average value of 73.60 . In the
second cycle students who reach KKM many as 21 students ( 84 % ) with an average
value of 76.40 . In the second cycle is the achievement of value both in quality process
and outcome has been reached thoroughness is more than 80 % . Therefore , it can be
concluded that the teaching of writing a text message to the model Problem Based
Learning and media use the school environment can improve the quality of process and
writing skills of students .
