ABSTRACT
The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of using video in teaching listening to the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Slawi in the academic year of 2014/2015.
The type of the study was quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test. The subjects of the study were some of the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Slawi in the academic year of 2014/2015. The number of students chosen as the samples was 62. The students were divided into two classes. One class became the experimental group and the other class became the control group. The experimental group was taught using video and the control group was taught using audio. The data were analyzed using T-test formula.
The results showed that: (1) there wasa significant difference between the listening achievement of the students taught using video and the listening achievement of the students taught using audio (2) the students taught using video had higher achievement than the students taught using audio. The T-test result showed that to = 2.605 was higher than tt(60;0.05) = 2.000 means that the difference between the listening achievement was significant. Meanwhile, the mean scoreof the experimental group was 75.80 while the mean score of the control group was 68.87. This means that using video for this teaching listening to the students was effective.
