ABSTRACTThe objectives of this research are: (1) to describe the use of English inschool daily life conversation at SD Bright Kiddie Ponorogo in the academic yearof 2014/2015; (2) to find out the difficulties faced by the students and teachers inusing English in school daily life conversation; (3) to find out the problemsolutions applied by teachers to solve the difficulties faced by the students andteachers in using English in school daily life conversation.The research was conducted at SD Bright Kiddie Ponorogo located at Jl.Suromenggolo Ponorogo in October 2014-Juni 2015. The method used for theresearch was case study. The data were collected through observation, interview,document analysis, and video record. The data of this research were analyzedthrough data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.Firstly, the result of this study shows that habituating to speak English inschool daily life conversation gives significant effect to the students’ English skill,especially speaking. Their speaking skill improves time by time. English as aninternational language is introduced to the students slowly in a relaxingatmosphere. The students become familiar with English and motivated to improvetheir ability. Secondly, teachers use natural approach to support the students inusing English for their speaking. Teachers should create friendly atmosphere andmotivate the students to speak English. Thirdly, the difficulties of using English inschool daily life conversation come from students and teachers. The students’difficulties are in English (Grammar, Pronunciation, Fluency, and Vocabulary)and in their characteristics (students’ anxiety and self-confidence). In the otherhand, the difficulties faced by teacher are that some teachers aredifficult to speakEnglish caused by not graduated from English Department and the lack ofteachers’opportunity to monitorallstudents. The last point is related with thesolutions accomplished by teachers to overcome the difficulties. To overcome thestudents’ difficulties, the teachersalways try to use English words in their speech,support the students, and give the students much motivation to speak in English.Meanwhile to cover the teachers’ difficulties, they share with other teachers, usedictionary, and always try to speak English.In conclusion, using English as a school daily life conversation is oneappropriate way to improve students’ English speaking. Therefore, it is suggestedto: (1) the students should practice speaking English more, both at school and athome; (2) teachers should not only improve their ability to speak English well butalso should know the various strategies to improve the students’ ability to speakEnglish; (3) The school should provide available facilities and English trainingregularly for the teachers in order to make their ability improve.Keyword: English, Daily life Conversation, Natural Approach, Case Study
