ABSTRACT
This research is aimed to discover the perception or appraisal of the society
of Tulungagung toward traditional art "Ketoprak". Ketoprak was a popular
traditional art in the society, but it is no longer well-known, even forgotten, these
days. Ketoprak can be a medium to deliver values, especially for Javanese society.
One of popular modern Ketoprak arts is KetoprakSiswoBudoyo from
Tulungagung. It was born, it is grown and developed in Tulungagung.
This research takes place in Tulungagung regency. This research is a
quantitative-descriptive which is completed by qualitative data. The purpose of
this research is discovering the appraisal and interest of the society of
Tulungagung toward traditional art "Ketoprak". To reach the goal, it is necessary
to calculate the number of respondents who state their interest and appraisal
toward traditional art "Ketoprak" according to frequency calculations and the
percentage. This research is dedicated to give contributions toward the similar
researches and to be a relevant reference toward the development of science.
The result of this research show that most of the society of Tulungagung
state their interest and like toward Ketoprak. They also wish that Ketoprak can be
reborn and conserved. They agree that television has been contributing in the
disappearance of Ketoprak.
