The objectives of this research are: 1)  to identify whether Round Table technique can improve students’ vocabulary mastery in writing procedure text; and 2)  describe the class situation when Round Table technique is implemented in class.

This study was conducted in SMKN 3 Madiun, East Java. The subject of the study is the Eleventh grade of  Chemistry Analyst 1 of SMK Negeri 3 Madiun in the Academic Year of 2014/2015, consisting of 33 students. The type of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). This research uses four kinds of methods to collect the data, which include test, observation, interview, and questionnaire. The data is analyzed through constant comparative method. The procedure of Classroom Action Research involve 4 (four) stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting.

Based on the analysis, the result of this research was satisfying in term of: (1) the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery and writing ability; (2) the improvement of teaching learning process. Round Table is effective to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery and writing ability. It can be seen from the test result. In vocabulary mastery, the average score increased from 70.5 in preliminary research, 73 in the post-test of Cycle I, and 79.5 in the post-test of Cycle II. In writing, the average score increased from 65.9 in preliminary research, 73.9 in the post-test of Cycle I, and 76 in the post-test of Cycle II. The students were also able to construct sentences meaningfully, could explore the topic given into well-organized text, improved in vocabulary, understood grammar better, and got better in punctuation of writing.

In conclusion, Round Table can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery in writing procedure text of class XI-Ak.1. Round Table can improve the class situation in terms of the students’ interest, active participation, their independent activities and group work.Keywords: vocabulary mastery, writing, procedure text, Round Table
