ABSTRAK Kemampuan menulis teks eksplansi siswa kelas VII H SMP N 2 Klaten masih rendah. Untuk itu tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk: (1) meningkatkan kualitas proses pembelajaran menulis teks eksplanasi melalui metode pembelajaran mind mapping siswa kelas VII H SMP N 2 Klaten; (2) meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi melalui metode pembelajaran mind mapping siswa kelas VII H SMP N 2 Klaten. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (Classroom Action Research), yaitu penelitian kolaboratif antara guru dan peneliti untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang ada dalam pembelajaran. Sumber data penelitian ini antara lain: peristiwa proses pembelajaran menulis teks eksplanasi, informan (guru pengampu mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia, siswa kelas VII H SMP N 2 Klaten), dokumen (Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran, foto kegiatan pembelajaran, hasil mind mapping, teks eksplanasi). Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, angket, wawancara dan tes. Untuk menguji validitas data peneliti menggunakan teknik triangulasi sumber data. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis kritis berdasarkan indikator keberhasilan yang telah ditetapkan. Proses penelitian dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus dengan empat tahap pada tiap siklusnya, yaitu tahap perencanaan, tahap pelaksanaan, tahap observasi, serta tahap analisis dan refleksi. Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa: (1) penerapan metode mind mapping dapat meningkatkan keaktifan, kedisiplinan, tanggung jawab dan percaya diri siswa dalam pembelajaran menulis teks eksplanasi. Di samping itu, penerapan metode mind mapping juga memacu guru untuk terampil dalam mengelola kelas; (2) penerapan metode mind mapping dapat meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran yang berimplikasi pada kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi. Hal ini ditandai dengan nilai rata-rata siswa mengalami peningkatan sebelum tindakan sampai pada tiap siklusnya. Pada kondisi awal nilai rerata 69 tingkat ketuntasan klasikal 40%. Pada siklus 1, nilai rerata 77 tingkat ketuntasan klasikal 72%. Pada siklus 2, nilai rerata 80 tingkat ketuntasan klasikal 82%. For the purpose of this study is The purpose of this study was to: (1) improve the quality of the learning process in writting explanatory text by applying mind mapping model study in VII H of SMP N 2 Klaten; (2) improve the ability to write explanatory text by applyrus mind mapping learning models in VII H of SMP N 2 Klaten. This study use a classroom action research, namely collaborative research between teachers and researchers to overcome the existing problems in learning. The data source of this research included: learning process in writting a text explanation, the source personth (Indonesian teacher, students in VII H of SMP N 2 Klaten), document (lesson plans, learning activities photo, mind mapping results, explanatory text). Data collection techniques that used were observation and interviews. To test the validity of the data the researchers used the technique of data sources and triangulation methods. The collected data were analyzed by using critical analysis based on the indicators of success that has been established. The research process was conducted in two cycles with four stages in each action, planning, acting, observasing, analysis and reflection. Results of this study can be concluded that: (1) the application of mind mapping method can improve the student activity, self-discipline, responsibility and confidence learning to write explanatory text. In addition, the application of mind mapping method also encouraged teachers to be skilled in managing the classroom; (2) the application of mind mapping method can improve the quality of learning that has implications for the ability to write explanatory text. It was characterized by the average value of students has increased before the action up on each action. The early condition of the average value was 69 classical completeness level was 40%. In action 1, the was average value was 77-level of classical completeness was 72%. In action 2, the average value was 80- level classical completeness was 82%.
