ABSTRACT
This final project report was written based on the job training in Sales and Marketing Department of The Royal Surakarta Heritage hotel. The objectives are to explain the usage of English in Sales & Marketing Department of The Royal Surakarta Heritage hotel and to know the Sales & Marketing staff of The Royal Surakarta Heritage hotel’s comprehension of English.
During the job training, the writer did activities as a sales administrator who has to handle administration terms in Sales and Marketing Department. In this department, English is very useful due to the staff of this department need to represent their hotel as a part of international hotel chain. The entire staff use both written and spoken English in their office activities in majority like to communicate with general manager of the hotel or other hotels, communicate with overseas clients, handle all the administration terms, make reports, etc.
The writer also observed the English comprehension of Sales and Marketing staff of The Royal Surakarta Heritage hotel and separated them to four comprehensions, they are: listening, speaking, reading, and writing comprehension. Based on the observation, the writer concluded that Sales and Marketing staff of The Royal Surakarta Heritage hotel have the quite good English comprehension. However, they still get some problems and mistakes in using English; one of their mistakes is that they have no confidence to use English in their daily activities.
