ABSTRACT
The objectives of this research are to investigate and describe: (1) the difference of effect between the application of the cooperative learning model of the STAD type and that of the jigsaw type  on the learning achievement in the English Language subject matter of the students of State Senior Secondary Schools of Grobogan Regency; (2) the difference of effect between the high learning interest and the low learning interest on their learning achievement in the English Language subject matter of the students of State Senior Secondary Schools of Grobogan Regency; and (3) the interaction of effect between the learning models and the learning interests on their learning achievement in the English Language subject matter of the students of State Senior Secondary Schools of Grobogan Regency.
This research was conducted at State Senior Secondary Schools of Grobogan Regency. It employed the experimental method with the factorial design of 2X2.
The results of research are as follows: 1) There is a difference of effect between the application of the cooperative learning model of the STAD type and that of the jigsaw type on the learning achievement in the English Language subject. The result of the two-way analysis of variance showed a significant difference between the group of students using the former type and that of the students used the latter one as indicated by the value of F = 4.942 with p< 0.05; in which the learning achievement of the students with Jigsaw type was better than that of the students with the STAD type. 2) There is a difference of effect between the high learning interest and the low learning interest on the learning achievement in the English Language subject matter. The result of the two-way analysis of variance showed a significant difference between the group of students with the high learning interest and that of the students with the low learning interest as shown by the value of F = 10.928 with p< 0.05; in which the learning achievement of the students with the high learning interest was better than that of the students with the low learning interest. 3) There is an interaction of effect between the learning models and the learning interests on the learning achievement in the English language subject matter. The result of the two-way analysis of variance showed a significant difference between the group of students who used the former learning model and that of students who used the latter one as indicated by the value of F = 4.327 with p< 0.05; in which the average learning achievement in the English language subject matter of the students with the jigsaw type and with the high learning interest was better than that of the students with the STAD type and with the low learning interest. The highest average score of the students with jigsaw type and the high learning interest was 84.89 whereas the students with the STAD type and with the low learning interest had the lowest average score of 72.00.
